Has anyone else watched this?

It's been made by a female film maker.

Obviously the subject matter is unsettling to say the least, however it's (imho) a really interesting documentary (in 3 parts) that exposes the failures in the Police investigation that were deeply rooted in misogyny.

There's some really interesting interviews with feminist activists at that time and it highlights how poorly the victims were treated by virtue of how the Police and media characterised them (the "innocent victims", those with "loose morals" - because they went to a pub without their husband and the prostitutes).

I appreciate it's not for everyone but tbh I thought it was very well made and just thought it worth flagging for those who might be interested.

There was a thread about it recently and it does sound very well made. I feel a bit sad that I am surprised by that.

Sorry I did look for a thread but couldn't see one Blush.

No need to apologise, it bears repeating for the weekend crowd Smile
I usually just switch off when I see those true crime type documentaries or docudramas, but this one seems worth watching.
I'm not sure how much has changed in the culture of policing since then.

It's very grim. I always thought Red Riding was more like a documentary and WYP still have a very, very long way to go. Some really awful ingrained attitudes to women that still persist today, sadly.

Red Riding was really disturbing.

Thanks - it's not all in the "true crime" type of style.

I found it upsetting but very sensitively done.

For example, interviews with the children of some of the victims and how their lives have been impacted - not only through the loss of their mother, but the way the Police and media portrayed these women.

Things like using the "mug shots" of the prostitutes which were deeply unflattering and hard vs the nicer pictures of the women whom the Police "decided" had been "accidentally" targeted.

Ignoring the testimony of victims who survived that he had a Yorkshire accent but continuing to focus the investigation around the hoax tapes/letters because that fitted the Police narrative.

So many chances to catch him lost because of deeply ingrained misogynistic attitudes to women.

Like a pp - given recent revelations I'm not sure WYP have moved on wrt women's rights with any degree of significance Sad
