STATEMENT FROM RADFEM COLLECTIVE.
Invitation to submit papers/talk linked to Radical Feminist Theory
We are delighted to announce that the RadFem Collective is holding a conference in September of 2019. This conference will be centred on the relationship between Radical Feminist Theory and action, and we want women to contribute by developing their own ideas. We are therefore inviting women to write and submit an outline of their proposed ideas for a talk for review and consideration at the conference which will be discussed with other women.
Radical Feminist theory developed out of women’s lived experiences. Until women began to theorise their experiences, women’s oppression was taken for granted and everyday practices were considered neutral, and of no theoretical value. Radical Feminists developed theory in mutual communication to dissect and understand how power works in relation to women’s oppression. When Andrea Dworkins wrote her book INTERCOURSE for instance, she asked ‘how is sex used against women?’, ‘What is the relationship between a socially constructed sexuality and women’s political experience?’
In the new liberal era of post modernism and queer theory, Radical Feminism is re-emerging, and women are developing new theory which exposes the implications of liberalism in its old and news forms on the female sex, such as transgender ideology. We invite women to write papers on theory, and we hope to hear from women with different ideas from the full spectrum of Radical Feminist thought who want to share their ideas at our conference.
Papers can range from 10 to 30 minutes. We invite you to submit ideas to us and encourage you all to become theorists! The conference will take place over two days so there will be space for women to share their ideas and for them to be discussed. We hope to develop space where many theoretical questions can be discussed such as” ‘how are sex race and class connected?”, “how do men maintain the domination”? how can sexuality be truly liberating rather than liberal? ‘How does sado-masochism reinforce women’s oppression?’ Does romantic love build or dilute a revolutionary movement?’ ‘how does service provision dilute a revolutionary vision?
Regrettably we cannot guarantee that every woman/group of women will be able to speak to her or their paper since we may be limited in time, but we intend to give as many women a voice as we possibly can in such a limited period. Once the slots are completed we will be not be accepting further submissions and will close the process.
We look forward to hearing from you all and please submit your ideas for papers at [email protected]
