Comic Relief: Worst since 2007

The Times reports that Comic Relief is set to have it's worst year since 2007.

This is being blamed on the David Lammy "White Saviour" debacle, but I'm sure that it also doesn't help that they've just given £190,000 to Allsorts - the Brighton & Hove charity that supplies school packs with case studies in transitioning children as young as six.

Parent of a Six-Year Old:
My child’s primary school have been fantastic with her transition and were very supportive right from the word go.

The BBC has reported on the £190,000 Comic Relief Allsorts donation with a video story of a teen wandering around the Museum of Transology (I kid you not).

There isn’t a single comment saying anything remotely like that. Just loads of comments about other charities we’re giving to.

Indeed. I did not give to Comic Relief, but gave a substantial amount to three other charities on Friday.

I think it a pity if we can no longer feel compassion for those so much poorer than ourselves.

Indeed. That's why we're all giving our money to charities outside the third sector industrial complex - you know, the ones who don't pay their execs £100k per year and aren't implicated in rape and child abuse scandals.

HTH.

There are so many charities locally who will do a lot with small amounts of money people raise, or a couple of hours of your time. So much to be done and so much compassion needed.

Dammit I forgot about the man of the week.

We had a discussion in the office about the sheer amount of useless plastic tat produced, and the charities who have been given funds - and the general consensus was not ‘do’ anything at work but donate money individually to a local charity of choice (or charity abroad) that ticks your boxes.

I agree children are more savvy about plastics and throwaway culture, and buying the new comic relief tat every year goes against those messages.

I didn't watch it because we rarely stick the telly on unless it's catch up or Netflix but not sure anyone under 40 will get the 4 weddings or even Love Actually skits, the world has moved on. I hope they can reimagine it and bring it up to date next year. It's a great concept and has done so much good
