Someone on my social media shared this commenting that it was probably the best solution to the problem of pornography messing up children's attitudes to sex.

www.unilad.co.uk/life/mums-unite-to-make-porn-theyre-happy-for-kids-to-watch/

Um, no, we should not be making pornography for children.

This must be some kind of sensationalist title, right? They are making a sex education video with mildly suggestive acted footage like you'd see in a mainstream film or TV programme, surely, not actual explicit footage of non-simulated sexual acts? Because it's illegal for an adult to show pornography to a child, so this can't be right can it?

It is staggering to me how anyone could think this was a good idea.

It's probably sensationalist reporting and it's actually children in the sense of adult children.

Still an awful idea though Sad

MillytantForceit · 11/03/2019 13:54

"Mums make porn?"

My blood runs cold
My old lady's a centrefold?

AncientLights · 11/03/2019 13:54

Channel 4. What else can you expect?

AssassinatedBeauty · 11/03/2019 13:56

I hope that they are children over the age of 18, and that hasn't been made clear. Presumably for sensationalist purposes and to raise more interest in this show.

shedid · 11/03/2019 13:58

Sounds like they've taken inspiration from 'Brave New World'

QuentinWinters · 11/03/2019 14:00

That sounds totally cringy....

MagicMix · 11/03/2019 14:03

Oh, I don't think the mums were going to be in the film, just directing it.

Channel 4. What else can you expect?

Um, I mean call me a naive optimist but not this.

Mind you I have seen people suggest in all sincerity that children should be shown porn clips to discuss in sex ed classes at school. And I'm quite sure they mean well and they clearly see there is a big problem with porn culture and children, but they have quite clearly got some very skewed ideas about what is appropriate.

I'm prepared to be shot down here, but I don't think it's such a bad idea. I wouldn't expect schools to start showing porn videos in class Confused but the fact is, kids ARE seeing what's out there, and what's out there is largely unpleasant. We already know it's giving young teens really distorted ideas of what's "normal".

I'd have some sort of independent advisory board to categorise all the porn that's produced, put it into into nice / nasty and then put the nasty stuff behind a paywall...

whatsnewchoochoo · 11/03/2019 14:11

I also don't think it's a bad idea.

If you read the rationale it's because the mums were shown what porn is like today and were horrified by it.

Porn is going to happen, visual representations of sex and sexuality has been happening for thousands of years.

The porn that is available out there now is horrific, traumatic and damaging society.

If an alternative can be offered then let's open the discussion on that.

ToeToToe · 11/03/2019 14:12

Anyone else thinking of Monty Python?

MagicMix · 11/03/2019 14:16

The right approach is to talk to children and teenagers about sex, relationships, pornography and the porn industry to help them build resilience against porn culture. Make sure they understand that healthy, normal sex is about mutual pleasure and mutual respect and this is not what porn depicts. Make sure they are aware of the harms that pornography can have on viewers and also the exploitation, violence and human misery that goes into the creation of filmed pornography. Make sure they know that porn is not synonymous with masturbation. Age appropriate conversations throughout childhood, give them the knowledge they need to make healthy decisions.

Don't show them slightly less horrific porn and say wink wink go ahead.

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

No. No. No.

Children, and I repeat CHILDREN, do not need alternative forms of porn. I’m not even going to justify the reason WHY!!

Horsewithnopoppets · 11/03/2019 14:18

Porn culture.

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2019 14:20

This is adults showing sexual images to children. So grooming. Sick fucks.

andyoldlabour · 11/03/2019 14:23

A bit of background about Unilad. Formed by Ladbible, they kind of remind me of those university students who were talking about raping girl students.

AncientLights · 11/03/2019 14:25

The article was very light on detail. As others have said, how old are these 'children'? That's highly relevant and also that the mothers themselves wouldn't actually be in it, if that is so, also is. It brought back memories of a show I think C4 put out in their early days, which had a psychoanalyst or similar getting parents & children to discuss their sexual fantasies with each other. With the aim of improving their relationship, I believe. It was an utter cringe-fest from beginning to end.

Despite my 'C4, what can you expect' comment, this could be good if done properly. At any rate, it could help counter some of the appalling & dangerous shit currently out there.

Just not sure if C4 will handle it well.

MagicMix · 11/03/2019 14:39

The mothers are apparently 'in the director's seat'. So not 'acting' themselves (though pornography is not acting and in most instances is simply filmed prostitution).

If it's 'nice' pornography for over-18s, well that has nothing to do with the problem of young children accessing disturbing sexual imagery and we're then into a discussion of whether ethical pornography exists, which I personally don't believe it really does and even then you couldn't be sure of anything at the point of consumption. 'Nice' pornography in terms of what it is actually depicting doesn't help anyway. It doesn't make the hardcore stuff any less available.

You need to get to the root of the issue.

If the mums are actually in the video then that's inappropriate at best and seriously dodgy at worst.

traceyracer · 12/03/2019 01:45

a heads up UniLad/Ladbible is not a credible source. I would say they're about as credible as a tabloid like the daily mail but in fact they are worse because they steal their stories from tabloids and twist the story even further

MagicMix · 12/03/2019 09:04

I don't think the source makes much difference here. It is easily confirmed that Channel 4 will be airing a programme with this title and fitting the description.

MagicMix · 12/03/2019 09:07

Here it is on the TV guide on Channel 4's own website.

I saw this yesterday. It read like the sons were mid teens but I don't know.

If they are not starring in it, then who is? And why is it OK for their sons to get off on watching some woman getting fucked on camera for money, as long as its done in a way that their mum approves of?

Lemoncakestrudel · 12/03/2019 10:44

I would look very sternly at any Mum who finds this at all appropriate.

CaptainMarvelBunting · 12/03/2019 12:02

Obviously wrong, whichever way you slice it.

But also, I can't help wondering why anyone would think that the way to encourage boys to watch 'good' porn is for their mums to direct it so they can have a wank thinking "Mum would really approve of this."

I'm not a bloke or a porn fan, but I'm pretty sure that's not how this works...

Vixxxy · 12/03/2019 12:09

This is genuinely fucked up. I tried putting a proper reply to this but it was just full of swearing so this shall do..
