On decapeptyl (triptorelin). Anyone had experience of this drug?

I'm on the above drug for endometriosis and menorrhagia. Just wondering if others have experienced many issues whilst on them, and if so, what?

Had my first injection last week, and had some issues.
Just not sure what's due to the injection and what's normal, or due to other things.

Thanks in advance for any advice/replies.

Have you been given HRT along side it? Tibolone was good for me.

Whats happening for you?

Notwotuknow · 10/03/2019 12:53

No, just this. I've been bleeding heavier than I usually would (sorry tmi....)with clotting, although I'm hoping that's getting less now. Also woke up in the night with very dry mouth and came over very hot and sweaty and dizzy yesterday evening. Had palpitations earlier for a few minutes when my heart felt like it was in my mouth, iykwim.

Not TMI at all, I would say make an appointment tomorrow when the GP surgery is available whenever you can get one.

With regard to the dizziness and palpitations as with losing a lot of blood, there may be a chance you are anaemic? Are you getting good food in with B12, iron and folate? That would be the first thoughts. However I am not a medic, this is all from my own experience.

As going to assume that due to menorrhagia which is defined as abnormally heavy bleeding at menses, You are definitely losing more blood than the average woman does which can and will take its toll on your body, the pain, the hormone levels produced by the body during normal periods, in itself are all on overtime with a long bleeding time, the decapeptyl is trying to block that for now but it takes time for it to work, its trying to put your body into what I would describe as a chemical menopause and so is working against what your body is trying to do (ie bleed) and its trying to stop it, so your body is in conflict as the injection is getting to work in your system.

The sweats, hot flushes are all normal with decapetyl in my experience, however in my experience as well they were helped by Tibolone which is HRT

I was on decapeptyl for three years. I didn't experience any of those symptoms. It is a powerful drug, though, and I would urge you to see your GP.

Maybe the symptoms are sex-specific, Debbie? Visiting your GP does sound like a good idea though, OP.

You might be allergic to it OP, best go and see your GP.

Lots of information here.

What you're experiencing seem to be known side effects, apart from the palpitations. I'd agree with the advice to talk to your GP.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm feeling better atm as the bleeding has lessened a lot (very light now), I'm still having the odd 'hot flush', but I think I'll give it a week or 2 to settle and then see if I'm still having any issues. If I am, I'll speak to the GP and see what they suggest. Smile
