www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/sharron-davies-transgender-sports-rowhow-can-fair-women/

The voice of reason - contrast to the lost-the-plot TRAs like McKinnon.

Apparently one person in Canada, where McKinnon is based, asked how much it would cost to send somebody to the UK to "create GBH" on Davies. Kudos Sharron on putting yourself in the firing line of these nutjobs.

The print edition also has a shorter piece by Joanna Harper on the same page "Trans women no longer have a male-like advantage" - 'cos it's all about lacking testosterone innit?

Can't actually see the Harper piece on the online Telegraph though.

It's a very good piece, and has a whole paragraph on Prof John Brewer explaining that there's much more to male sports advantage than simply testosterone levels.

Also Sharon manages to mention the "looks like a transwoman" tweet of McK in passing, and plays a blinder with a response of "meh, sticks and stones, I've had 3 children, not really worried about what people say about my looks."

I can't find the Joanna Harper article online either.

That’s a great article. Sharron is fantastic

Yes great piece however the old 'vitriol on all sides' rears it's lazy, cliched reporting head again...

"Hence Davies’s notes, which serve as a reminder that beneath the vitriol from all sides, there is a serious matter that will have major implications for sportspeople everywhere – not least trans athletes."

Angry push back at the TRA/MRA tactics has been strong arguments based on evidence, swearing and refusal to capitulate to bullying - in the style of Linda Bellos...feminists have not threatened, intimidated and hounded people out of jobs/political parties/sponsership/meeting rooms etc.

One side is overwhelming in their use of vitriol (aka malice or pure spite), and it's not the angry, mocking feminists.

This made me smile on Twitter today

Just when I thought this debate couldn't get any more crazy.

Thank God for the sensible voices like Sharrons

Joanna Harper is trans. Its an obvious bias that really cannot be ignored.

Also, I keep meaning to mention that when Ocar Pistorious (though I hate to mention his name here) was excluded from running in able bodied races, it was because the research showed both advantages and disadvantages to his situation (eg lack of fatigue in his lower limbs, and rebound effect vs having to use prosthetics, pain etc).

He couldn't prove he had no overall advantage, the data was open to interpretation and the situation was difficult to compare etc, so he was (I think rightly) excluded.

Similarly no transwoman can show or prove that their male advantage is removed or reduced to that of a female body (either as an individual or as a group), and so by the same standard, that should be enough to exclude them from women' sports.

But then Pistorius was a man, threatening to beat able bodied men so...

Pistorious took part in the London Olympics AND Paralympics
There was a discussion about the fairness but it was concluded that he didn't have an advantage - and he didn't medal.

Another article from the Sunday Telegraph

Two thirds of British public think it is cheating for women born male to compete in women's sport, says poll

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/03/10/two-thirds-british-public-think-cheating-women-born-male-compete/

I have to wonder about the other third (12% disagreed and 25% didn't know)
