Political parties that actually care about women...

Hi everyone,

I was a life long supporter and former member of the Labour Party. I ended my membership last year.

I was going to post this in the Politics section but thought people here may be a bit more understanding.

Are there any political parties I could look into that actually support women, and maybe are gender critical?

Thanks in advance!

“They, as a party, are to concerned about seeing themselvess inclusive and woke. Lifetime snp voter now honeles”

I suspect the snp leadership are true believers rather than just interested in appearing woke. I think Teresa May’s Tories probably don’t really buy it if they even understand it but don’t really care much and can’t be bothered with the hassle that comes from angering the activists and are letting them dictate much of the policy to stay on the right side of powerful pressure groups.

The SNP members I have met were true believers though. I’m now going to campaign for UKIP unless the tories have a decent candidate (which I doubt). I was always on the left before but now I don’t think I am.

I can't vote UKIP, aside from disagreeing with them they don't want people like me in England anyway, I can't vote Labour, LibDem or Green as I fundamentally believe I am a woman and we exists as a separate sex class to men.

Holding out hope for the Independent Group.

Pam that is a great summary.

XXcstatic · 08/03/2019 10:37

I was told by the SNP people I met that GC was the wrong side of history, utterly bigoted and that expressing GC opinions should be a criminal offence with jail time (and might actually be) and that such thoughts were unacceptable and that thinking couldn’t be tolerated or allowed to continue.

Some BTL commentator on the SNP described them as "trying to build a woke East Germany". Sounds about right Shock

I resigned from the Labour Party last year over this (specifically, the Women's Officer posts thing). Wrote to Chuka who is my MP in advance and got back the standard claptrap about an inclusive society being best for all. However, I don't believe he believes TWAW End Of - as a lawyer as much as anything. I think I will write to TIG saying they've got my vote next time round if they can define a woman as an adult human female. Doubt they will though.

XXcstatic · 08/03/2019 10:48

If we're writing to MPs, it's probably worth reminding them that the debate about TW in sport has shown clearly that the public distinguish between human rights for trans people vs self-ID. They support one but not the other. Ask MPs to check out BTL comments on the website of any paper that does not censor GC comments. People are very sympathetic to the distress and difficulties of gender dysphoria, but they do not buy the obvious lie that there are no biological differences between TW and women, or that there are no risks to women from self-ID.

Worth asking if your MP or potential candidate will support the Declaration of Women's Sex Based Rights which be launched on March 15th and if not why not?

The scope is international .

summary:
'Declaration on Women’s Sex Based Rights

The Declaration outlines current international laws and policies on women’s rights and how they are being threatened by organisations that are trying to change the definition of woman. It reaffirms existing women’s rights and suggests ways that states should promote and protect them. It was drafted with input from women internationally. Launching in March 2019, the Declaration is a clear call to law and policy makers to retain the sex-based biological definition of woman.

The Declaration on Women’s Sex Based Rights is a statement on the importance of keeping the current sex based definition of woman.

Women’s rights, set out in the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and subsequent international agreements, are based on our sex, defined by the UN as “the physical and biological characteristics that distinguish males from females”[1].

In recent years organisations have been quietly trying to replace the idea of biological sex with the idea of “gender identity” in human rights documents; and to include men who say they have a female “gender identity” in the word “woman”.

Many women’s rights are related to our biologically female bodies e.g. the right to abortion, and maternal rights. Other women’s rights are aimed at eliminating discrimination against women in public life e.g. women’s rights to education, political representation, work, equal pay. Further women’s rights are to protect us against violence or harmful practices e.g. rape, and FGM.

A key way women and girls are denied rights is by gender or sex role stereotyping (e.g. girls should help at home while boys go to school). The UN recognises this is harmful and works for “the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women.”[2] The Declaration raises concern that the term “gender identity” reinforces sex role stereotyping because it is only possible to have a “gender identity” by choosing between sex role stereotypes for men and women.

In recent years some governments have been substituting “gender identity” for biological sex in law and policy, and including men who say they have a female “gender identity” in the word “woman”. This enables these men to access spaces and services set up for women and girls. This includes single sex victim support services, single sex sport, women’s shortlists designed to increase women’s participation in political and public life, scholarships and prizes for women, single sex toilets, changing rooms and sleeping areas aimed at protecting the safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls. Using “gender identity” instead of biological sex threatens maternal rights, women’s right to assemble and organise without including men, and data collection on violence against women and girls,. Furthermore, “gender identity” is being used to “transition” girls who do not conform to sex stereotypes."

Well, I have emailed The Independent Group asking for them to be the change they want to see in politics, on this issue, and let women talk.

Because we are going to keep talking anyway. They have an opportunity to do something brave, and more importantly, fair. Which is apparently what they are all about.

Perhaps it's worth others doing it too. Strength in numbers.

I notice WEP have announced their new leader today, Mandu Reid.

She seems sensible.

MsMartini · 08/03/2019 16:11

I've just emailed TIG too. Said I can't support any party that can't say woman = adult human female, or cannot recognise sex is the basis of women's oppression and disadvantage around the world. And said women who think like I do are politically homeless and at least read FPFW materials before taking a stand.

DanaBarrett · 08/03/2019 18:04

I genuinely want a mumsnet party tbh. We’d have sensible policies and time for penguin bollards and festivals, what could go wrong?
