Is Million Women Rise trans inclusive? Does anyone know?

There's a reallly confusing thread on their facebook event page which seems to imply the march is open to trans women.

Which on one level wouldn't be a surprise given the involvement of Imkaan.

Does anyone know either way?

I think so. Can’t see why they would be excluded when they are allowed into everything else for women.

CallMeWoman · 02/03/2019 20:28

I've heard they are, yes. But I bet they are obfuscating on purpose to avoid backlash from either side.

I'm thinking of attending in my woman hoodie, apart from the request to wear red for the march.

stumbledin · 03/03/2019 18:21

Not sure why I even thought it wouldn't be.

Must have gone through a time warp when it was acknowledged that women had the right to organisise autonomously and provide services to women based on what women wanted and needed.

You would think that as the march is primarily about promoting the services that support women survivors of male violence they would want the march to reflect those services being entitled to be women only in the true sense.

And that trans women in saying they empathised with women would understand why it wouldn't be appropriate to take part.

I keep having to remind myself of what the new reality is.

Confused

Have just seen this on facebook as quite a few women are asking this question:

It is definitely open to all that self identify as women x I have just been on the stewards training and this was definitely made clear to all involved.

Funnily enough have just posted earlier today that soon IWD will just be about trans women in the near future. Sad

I’ve always understood that while they don’t stop transwomen taking part (not sure how they could) they don’t centre them either.

I went last year. It was great, all about women, placards & chants about our bodies, and barely a fucking rainbow in sight.

(I’m a lesbian & I hate that the rainbow now feels like a symbol of lesbophobia. But it does Sad)

I hear you, Empress. It’s more of a threat than a welcoming signal, isn’t it?

I’d imagine if the march is anything but entirely trans inclusive there would have been massive kicking off before now. Will see how it goes, I guess. I will be wearing my Adult Human Female tee and will look out for others, my kin :)

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 08/03/2019 20:11

Last year I saw one or two placards with pointed slogans about ‘ALL women’ but that was it.

Then there were these ones!

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 09/03/2019 19:37

Did you go, tirisfal? Brilliant day.

I was horrified by what Australian women had to contend with in Melbourne. Anyone see the placards being carried by, mostly, men? Like ''blowjobs are real jobs'' and ''Your vagina doesn't make you a woman.''

Scary times!

McTufty · 09/03/2019 22:06

As long as no one is saying it is “reductive and exclusionary” to centre female issues, then trans women are welcome to this as far as I am concerned.

Angry I’m sure Bergdorf, McKinnon & friends would have approved of that.

How it should be I think. I just dislike all the squawking on about how its transphobic to discuss female issues or whatever..the pussy hat kickoff was fucking pathetic, and all the libfems rushing to sooth the feelings of hose who are male..

Cracking photos & banners 😁

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 10/03/2019 12:04

I wouldn’t touch the (Wo)men’s March with a bargepole. But I LOVE this one!

welshgendercrit · 10/03/2019 14:49

Thanks for the second lot, Empress The middle banner was posted on Twitter by the Sheffield ReSisters and I just loved it. It looks like everyone had a brilliant day.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 10/03/2019 15:04

You’re welcome, Welsh. If you’re going to go to a march for & about women, this is absolutely the one to go to.

stumbledin · 11/03/2019 17:36

It certainly seems that MWR is a great day out for a lot of women (and the odd trans woman and women supporters wearing trans women are women t-shirts).

And its good to have a time to meet up and acknowledge other women's work.

And of course the media goes out of its way not to acknowledge that it actually exists.

But the politics of the March organisers obviously dont hold much interest for most marchers who rarely stay for the rally.

Wonder how many heard the main speaker talking about how tired she was of still having to fight violence against women felt when she also said she was tired of the racism in women's groups and the fact that some women's groups worked with right wing organisations? It got the biggest applause and cheers!
