Text of Ani O'Brien's speech to SUFW Conference, and video of speakers. There is still work to be done, but I feel really hopeful now that the NZ government has started to listen to women's voices.

That's a great speech. Nice and clear. Upsetting to see so much of the evidence of the dangers coming from the UK.

The UK is now a beacon of misguided woke policies and institutions causing unnecessary, avoidable and entirely predictable harm to women.

Go Ani. I have so much respect for her as spokeswoman for SUFW. It hasn't been easy for her.

Excellent speech from Ani, laid the situation out simply but clearly.
She was also very strong in her feelings about the way women had been traduced simply by raising concerns as all citizens have a right to about legislation which affects them.
We can all heave a sigh of relief, have a drink, (I did) and gird our loins for the coming discussions. I will have to go back to Louisa Wall's speech and finish listening to it. The moment she said "I believe trans women are women I turned off, but then realised I owe her the courtesy of listening to her speech. Professor Alison Heather made it crystal clear why trans women should not be competing in women's sports.
It should not be beyond the wit of the Government as Julian Norman has said and many of us from the beginning to pass legislature which makes officially changing from one identity to another, ie mtf or ftm easier for the trans community and at the same time protecting the rights of women and girls. I believe it now can happen but there will be battles ahead, particularly around women's sport.
Children are another issue altogether. I believe most New Zealander's would be horrified at the prospect of giving young children puberty blockers not to mention cross sex hormones and surgery later on. There is also the question of taking the trans ideology into schools, from the age of five would you believe.
Jared Luke has written four articles on what the proposed teaching would look like. They can be found under the title of Ministry of Sexualisation 1-4 in the Whale Oil blog. Strange bedfellow as you have said before YeahnahYeah but they are worth reading. I wrote to Michael Woodhouse regarding these articles as he and Nikki Kaye were holding a meeting here in Dunedin on the Government's proposals for Education and I didn't know whether he or Nikki were aware of this. To his credit he replied immediately.
I tried posting the links to the articles but didn't succeed. I will have another go in a separate post.
In the meantime, a timely reminder to MPs that due process and consultation is the proper way to go. The Government has been inept in their handling of this Bill. Personally I think we women and SUFW in particular are owed an apology by the Green MPs and that Wellington lawyer.

Who thought that it would be cause for celebration to just get a pro trans rights person in the same room as GC people. Yet it is a rare thing. And please note Louisa Wall: no transpeople were harmed, or suffered violence, or were erased due to the meeting.
I agree Illyria those articles we're great. But if you had referred me to them even 6 months ago I would have judged you Grin .
