A sincere thank you to the journalists and editors who repeatedly stand up to the aggressive trans lobby and week after week publish informed and knowledgeable pieces. Janice Turner, Andrew Gilligan, Lucy Bannerman to name just 3 of their outstanding journalists.
Today Janice Turner's column following up Martina's excellent piece last week, Andrew Gilligan following up on the scandal at the Tavistock and Nicholas Hellen writing about Stonewall losing backers because of their promotion of an aggressive trans agenda. It is a relief to see the press investigating and commenting - an antidote to #nodebate - and a lesson to the BBC and the Guardian who have forgotten their core purpose.

We started subscribing to the print edition of Sunday Times as a result of their courageous journalism. It restores my equilibrium of a Sunday morning to see a truthful representation of the madness.

HermioneWeasley · 23/02/2019 21:06

They have been brilliant

beeyourself · 23/02/2019 21:07

I have been impressed (against my better judgment based on previous experiences). How much is a times subscription??

Muddysnowdrop · 23/02/2019 21:11

Can I ask how much the subscription is? I know I could google it but sounds like a lot of you already know the answer...

WokerThanWoke · 23/02/2019 21:12

You can do a trial - I think £1 a month for 3 months. Then £26 a month - that’s the Times & the Sunday times.

AbsintheFriends · 23/02/2019 21:18

I think we pay about two pounds a week for the ST itself, and an extra 50p to a local newsagents to deliver (but they are ace and we can add milk, bread, eggs, orange juice etc to appear with it on the doorstep on Sunday morning.)

silentcrow · 23/02/2019 21:21

It's £1/week for eight weeks then £26/month thereafter. If I was a regular newshound I'd go for it.

feministfairy · 24/02/2019 07:47

A Sunday morning bump for the Times - who are also reporting on the issues with parents campaigning against sex education in schools. What a mess.

Well said, OP.

Danglingmod · 24/02/2019 07:58

My subscription is about a year old now (yes, because of its excellent feminist stories and I believe it to be genuinely politically neutral at the moment) and is only £13.99 for Sat and Sun papers plus full digital access (and BOGOF on cinema tickets) but you can't get that deal anymore.

XXcstatic · 24/02/2019 08:14

There's always the option of buying the print version as and when you can afford it. The Saturday edition is the best bet, because that's when Janice's column appears.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/02/2019 08:20

Thank you to everyone at The Times, the donors, the governor/clinicians at Tavistock for doing the right thing.

tirisfalpumpkin · 24/02/2019 08:28

The Times have been consistently excellent about this.

I don’t tend to buy newspapers but I have spent money on an online subscription to access the quality journalism and because I helped myself to lots of other people’s share tokens and felt guilty

I hope the Guardian takes note. There’s a reason they’re having to beg on every page.

CandidPeel · 24/02/2019 08:53

Yes Brava to The Times and to The Economist and to The Spectator and to Justine and Mumsnet Flowers FlowersFlowers.

The wheels really do seem to be threatening to come off... With Stonewall, the Tavistock and Martina.

I wonder if the other media that have been running with the "stunning and brave" / nothing to see here narrative are contemplating a revered ferret, or whether they are going to double down with the fingers-in-ears 'la la la we cant hear you' pose Hmm

tirisfalpumpkin · 25/02/2019 07:41

I reckon double down - there really is no graceful way to come back from (for example) asserting that penises are female and lesbians should want them. And narcissists can’t apologise because they can’t be wrong.

FemalePersonator · 25/02/2019 07:49

Flowers To all those who have the courage of their conviction and the conviction of their courage to speak out about transideology.

SoftDay · 25/02/2019 09:06

I've finally got off my (virtual) arse and taken out an online subscription. I also e-mailed the feedback address to tell them I had done so in appreciation of their journalists' outstanding work on the issue. This type of bravery, resilience and journalistic integrity deserves to be supported by anybody who has the means to do so.

Needmoresleep · 25/02/2019 09:19

The Times must be under huge pressure. I had a brief look through the Twitter accounts of senior, and well connected, Stonewall people yesterday, and "transphobic Times" seemed to be all over the place. There was a lot of hate, or perhaps fear. Stonewall's "diversity" monopoly is being questioned, and the push back will be significant.

And perhaps a thank you also to the Mail. I am not sure about the journalistic ethics, but there were some good, straight forward, though copy cat articles appearing mid-Sunday afternoon clearly drawing on the Times ones, thus taking the issues to a wider audience including in the US and Australia/NZ and hopefully to politically attuned senior members of the Conservative party.

Badgerthebodger · 25/02/2019 09:20

A note for anyone who has a student in the house - there is a student subscription offer which is hugely reduced (I’ve a feeling we pay about a fiver a month for the digital edition, which includes the app) You just need to sign up with a Uni email.

I’ve cancelled my Guardian sub. They can fuck off.

Beamur · 25/02/2019 09:26

The Times is to be commended in actually doing proper investigative journalism. Not like the wokewash we're seeing in the Guardian.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2019 09:26

Note that the subscription is linked to an email, not something like an Apple ID, so I can use DHs. He reads a wide range of news sources, has had subscriptions for others in the past but I think the Times is the only one he always keeps. Reckons it's generally the most balanced overall.

nauticant · 25/02/2019 10:06

My subscription to The Times is the first subscription I've ever had to a newspaper.

Here's a tip. Sign up for £1 a week for 8 weeks, find out the latest cancellation date, phone them up to cancel* before that date, see if they make you a very tempting offer of an alternative subscription deal.

  • be prepared to wait a long time on the phone before you get to speak to a person
drspouse · 25/02/2019 22:25

DH and I share one, I was umming and ahing about one for Christmas but finally bit the bullet for my birthday.

There's also a letter in the Letters section (under Comment on the app) yesterday (Sunday 24th).

morningtoncrescent62 · 26/02/2019 12:25

Ooh, thanks drspouse, I'd missed that. There are actually two letters, one on Martina, and one called 'Trans children deserve better' signed by a group of academics including Rosa Freedman. You have to scroll past the first few letters to get to them.

I took out a contract in October when they started reporting on GC issues. I just checked and I see my contract runs up to 14th March. I don't think I'll renew it as the price is a little stiff -- it was 1£ a week for 8 weeks and then as said above £26 a month.
