Just saw this tweet form amnesty:

During #LGBTHistoryMonth we are highlighting notable LGBT+ figures from history. Hatshepsut (1507 BC - 1458 BC) fifth Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt, one of the most successful pharaohs in history. born a woman, used female pronouns but presented herself as a King #LGBTHM19 t.co/H4GWvcj7lg

I have to confess my historical knowledge is massively lacking, but I hadn't heard that before?

OP posts:

For fuck's sake. She was a woman who wanted power for herself in a patriarchal world. It's more likely that she was clearly a gender critical feminist.

Bebstar123 · 22/02/2019 15:14

While not exactly mainstream history (they believe that civilization is a LOT older than accepted) these guys have some very interesting takes on ancient Khem. The sadly departed Abd’El Hakim Awyan was said to be the oral historian of an original Egyptian culture, his daughter has maintained the tradition. Their take (I'm summarizing here) Ancient Khem, before the dynastic era, was a matriarchy, Pharaoh refers to women exlusively.

Just to answer the question in the thread title: was she fuck.

BiologyNotBigotry · 22/02/2019 15:17

I can't immediately find Joann Fletcher on Twitter but there is an account for her programme @ImmortalEgypt that's been active recently. No idea who's in charge of it but might be worth sharing the tweet with them & asking their opinion, if anyone has time/access to Twitter!

honeylane · 22/02/2019 15:17

So basically the gender critical women who have achieved something amazing must have been trans women

All the other gender critical women are Terfs

Is it possible to peak trans more than once??????

MillytantForceit · 22/02/2019 15:18

Out of the same presentist box as "Cleopatra Was Black..." and suggestions that Mary Secole was the equal of Florence Nightingale in the foundation of professional nursing.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/02/2019 15:18

Well the tie on beard was a bit like a crown back in the day. Didn’t mean she was a he. I believe there was a tie on willy too but both sexes used these as part if their costume.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 22/02/2019 15:24

If Hatshepsut is going to be claimed for men, then I think Franklin D Roosevelt should be recognised for the successful woman that she was, first woman president of the US. As evidence, I present a photo of her aged 2.5 - I have read many times that children know their gender by this age, so hereafter I expect MNHQ to delete anyone who refers to her as a man.

Was Hatshepsut transgender?

God from bible: creator of life, embodies love, forgiveness, self-sacrifice - clearly a woman

Any doctor ever: associated with that “feminine” quality of healing - clearly women/transmen

Any architect: concerned with creating homes —> women are homemakers - therefore they must all be women/transmen

Any chef ever: cooking is to do with sustenance and nourishment - therefore they’re all women/transmen

Etc etc etc

Kettleon80 · 22/02/2019 15:34

Oh give me a fucking break. Surely some sane Historian can come along and explain to these dickheads WHY she had to present as King

Honestly this has to be a joke GrinGrin

LangCleg · 22/02/2019 15:36

Next up Queen Elizabeth I?

I have the body of a weak, feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a King of England too.

Threewheeler1 · 22/02/2019 15:36

Lysisstrata Grin I like it. We should have Abe Lincoln too.

It's more likely that she was clearly a gender critical feminist.
Quite.

MillytantForceit · 22/02/2019 15:37

John Wayne was Marion Morrison

Big Daddy (wrestler) was Shirley Crabtree

Knicknackpaddyflak · 22/02/2019 15:43

Sherlock Holmes. Dorothy Sayers claimed him in the 1920s on the grounds of Holmes possessing nothing more than normal mother wit.

Winston Churchill. Obviously. Widely known as Winnie.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 22/02/2019 15:47

Uh huh.

Floral
Shit, you predicted this! Grin

LizzieSiddal · 22/02/2019 16:37

What about JK Rowling? She’s used Robert Galbraith. She must be trans.

Kettleon80 · 22/02/2019 16:39

What about JK Rowling? She’s used Robert Galbraith. She must be trans.

Also 'JK' is very gender neutral. Maybe she's non binary at least?

Kettleon80 · 22/02/2019 16:41

Princess Michael of Kent - an open trans member of the royal family

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 22/02/2019 17:00

Cleopatra, they identified as a rug didn't they?

silentcrow · 22/02/2019 17:23

Cleopatra

I wonder if Anthony was happy with his 7 inch surprise.

MorrisZapp · 22/02/2019 17:24

Hello Egyptologists! How do you pronounce Hatshepsut?

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 22/02/2019 17:28

It's ridiculously silly, of course, but it's also contributing to making a mockery of LGBT history by manipulating the story of someone of whom there is zero evidence of being L, B or T. Coupled with the pernicious habit of transing lesbians, thus dissolving actual Lesbian history, this stupid nonsense is not revealing a hidden history, it's entirely fabricating one out of wisps of fantasy and misunderstanding.

I mean, I know these idiots don't understand science, but they clearly haven't got the slightest grasp of history either. It's the cutting edge of scholarship for the incredibly blunt of wit.

RockyFlintstone · 22/02/2019 17:55

Oh someone beat me to it with Princess Michael of Kent!

BertrandRussell · 22/02/2019 17:57

And there was Lady Colin Campbell.....
