Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Does gender of an author make a difference in rating their novel?

Hello,
I'm doing a research on the way people rate novels based on the gender of the author. Are we more critical when the author is female or the other way around?
Sadly I cannot find any research on this subject. Does anyone know any reliable articles or where I can find them.

Help would be much appreciated!

Sex, not gender.

I'm not sure necessarily about critique due to the authors sex but I believe it can influence sales. Lots of authors publish under initials eg J K Rowling because they thought that boys wouldn't buy the books if they saw they were written by a woman and vice versa.

I know a male author with a name which British people would tend to assume is male, but Americans would tend to assume is female. His worst review, by quite a bit, was from someone who had assumed he was female. Anecdote does not equal data, but I did wonder if the bad review reflected the assumption that he was a female writer.
