I think this is wonderful, children should always be able to express themselves!

Yes and no.

Not when they're performing in strip clubs to adult men.

The stuff in this clip is expressive and similar to various artists eg Kusama.

However, this isn't the full story as usual.

I also note the phrases he uses which is rather scripted.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/02/2019 13:03

There's expression and there's exploitation.

I was going to carry on joking but I'm really not comfortable with it.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/02/2019 13:09

Yes sorry.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/02/2019 13:10

A pretty ill judged comment really thinking about it.

nauticant · 18/02/2019 13:13

It's about extending into lower ages the significance of gender expression so that what, in in the past, would have just been very young kids messing about or having preferences, now has to have incorporated into it a meaning of adult sexual signalling.

It's PIE. But presented in a glitter-friendly and easy to absorb form.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/02/2019 13:14

Maybe delete? Think I will.

I worry this shit is how people like David Challenor fly under the radar.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/02/2019 13:14

It is, we all know it but there's not a thing we can do about it.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/02/2019 13:15

Already reported.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/02/2019 13:16

Why does it have to be called drag? It's more appropriate to see it as a very creative fashion sense - these clips show less sexualised outfits than I've seen.

I've seen films of him stripping, not completely but to a point.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/02/2019 13:17

Though many of these are definitely close to the bone.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/02/2019 13:21

jesus fucking christ

where are his parents? they are failing to protect their son

PerkingFaintly · 18/02/2019 13:24

I think talking, loudly, in terms of PIE probably is one of the things we can do about it.

The methodology is so similar. It should ring a few bells for anyone who remembers that time.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/02/2019 13:25

where are his parents

I imagine they are getting a lot of money for letting him 'express himself'.

RockyFlintstone · 18/02/2019 13:30

Awwww look it's Desmond - the 11 year old boy who dances on stage in gay nightclubs whilst adults chuck money at him, who is pictured alongside adults in fetsh gear on the House of Mann Etsy page and who hangs out with murdering drug dealers under pictures which say 'Rohypnol'.

Guys, this is just a boy expressing himself, he is just being allowed to be his authentic self, what's with all the negativity you are just bigoted haterzzzzzzzz.

I forgot to add my opinion which was the point of starting the thread. It's another case of the BBC telling half the story which is really disappointing again.

Such a lot to unpick with all this and no time so will just say bottom line is that

dressing up is for kids
drag has always been for grown ups

OrchidInTheSun · 18/02/2019 13:37

His parents have pumped him out. They are unemployed and Desmond is their cash cow

NothingOnTellyAgain · 18/02/2019 13:39

As such this is a child / and other children being encouraged into an adult thing which was created for adults to express /entertain and often with themes relating to sex
The drag look is a hypersexualised caricature of a woman

Nope from me.

HumberElla · 18/02/2019 14:01

You only have to look at who is pushing this. It’s not kids.
This is a very thin veneer of ‘family friendly fun’ over of what has always been a highly sexualised form of adult entertainment based on sex stereotypes.
Making children be accessories to this and having it accepted as mainstream entertainment is serving some adults very well indeed.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/02/2019 14:04

is desmond wearing a pink collar in the still picture?

why is the BBC only telling half of this story?

It's the BBC.
