I thought it was a satirical article. Wow, that was awfully written load of shite.

My 3 year old could put a more coherent piece of writing on the difference of sex v's gender. Blimey.

thatdamnwoman · 13/02/2019 19:45

I think the more worrying thing is that she's been invited to be a visiting fellow. This isn't the calibre you'd expect of the LSE and I don't imagine many of the staff there would be impressed.

DoctoressPlague · 13/02/2019 20:18

''there’s no such thing as “a woman”, or “a man”, in general.

No, I suppose there isn't - if you choose to believe that the words "woman" and "man" don't mean "female and "male". Personally I think it's an arbitrary distinction which does nothing to advance the social sciences (other than to create research opportunities in 'trans' topics).

MillytantForceit · 13/02/2019 20:32

''there’s no such thing as “a woman”, or “a man”

Well, no. Those are not things.

"a woman" is a signifier for the thing we call a woman, which is the signified. The two together make the sign. They are connected arbitrarily by agreed meaning. It only means something if we share the agreed meaning.

(I used to be a semiologist, but now I'm not Saussure.)

whathaveiforgottentoday · 13/02/2019 20:34

arhhh that's just about the worst thing I have read in an age.

This is about the best thing I've read this week, if not this month! Brilliant and witty.

Mumfun · 13/02/2019 20:59

Some decent comments thank goodness including:

‘What it means to be a man or a woman is not in any way determined by our bodies’. Well that is utter, utter nonsense. I can’t read any further. Shame on you.

AnyOldPrion · 13/02/2019 21:22

Piffle!

Oliversmumsarmy · 13/02/2019 21:34

I read this and have not a clue what they are trying to say.

I would love to know what category I am in.

I work in the building trade, the hard hat and steel toe cap boots part, I look after the finances of the household and I can’t cook.
All apparently masculine traits but I am female and have never had anyone say anything derogatory against me. Probably because I am a grown up who mixes with other grown ups not children still in education

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/02/2019 21:50

One can't help but wonder how Heloisa thinks babies are made......

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 13/02/2019 22:06

Seriously Bernard for shame!
Babies are made when the feelings and magic essences mingle.

Does the proff chat more shit than Terycotta the teen? I really laughed reading that thread today....
Especially at the "Is this Sally Hines" comment!

''And inequalities appear visibly when a former masculine field gets more feminised, and tend to be devalued, and salaries get lower in that area.''

This just happens.. Look, it happened in Brazil! (Aren't I just so wonderfully intersectional!)
We cannot question or challenge it. Capitalism would fall over and mens feelings would be hurt.

Ereshkigal · 13/02/2019 22:36

Finance – as action movies – is a more masculine field than, let us say, marketing

That would amuse the rather gung ho men I know who work in marketing.

This piece is batshit. It reminds me of Meg John Barker's less feminine northern women.

Ereshkigal · 13/02/2019 22:46

Gender theory itself is being attacked in the anti-gender campaigns, particularly one that started in the heart of the Catholic church.

I wonder if she is referring to that ridiculous "research" carried out using Google search.

Igneococcus · 14/02/2019 07:00

If biology and the body play absolutely no role and it's all socialisation could I socialise the cat into becoming a goat? Because I really really want a goat, I want more than one actually.

nellieellie · 14/02/2019 19:49

Is there any objective test of quality in some of our universities today? This is incoherent unsubstantiated rambling.

Oliversmumsarmy · 16/02/2019 03:18

Just been told I am a “repressed transgender man”

😂😂😂

I hate to break it to terrycotta I am most definitely all woman.

MIdgebabe · 16/02/2019 07:41

Not if repressed transgender man means woman who thinks gender is a straight jacket from which you have struggled to on escape ( so not accepting of female gender makes you trans and struggle makes you repressed. And clearly in denial if you think being a woman affects your biology and has shaped how others treat you ( they should have recognised your transness)

MIdgebabe · 16/02/2019 08:02

WHIch is of course why the trans community should centre GC women, intersectionality, we are both women and at the same time (by their definition) trans non binary ( because we reject gender)

Trousering · 16/02/2019 09:19

I wonder if these academics will ever realise how much they have been played.
