'Women Trans* Femme Workshop

Anyone able to make any head or tail out of this?

bicas.org/women-trans-femme/

"Women Trans Femme (WTF) hours are open to anyone who identifies as female, transgender, femme, genderqueer, trans-masculine, trans-feminine, or feels that their socialization or treatment as a woman, transperson, &/or femme has impeded their participation in bicycle mechanics."

"This space is for:
Women: A person who identifies as a woman.

Trans* People: Transgender, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, gender creative, anyone whose gender identity is fluid, transgressive, and/or transitioning.

Femme: A person of any gender who embodies a “feminine” appearance, expression, or identity, including those who identify as femmes, fairies, sissies, mariposas, mariquitas, or any expression which counters or challenges “traditional” masculinity."

They add

"If you are not WTF identified, BECOME AN ALLY:"

I very much like the idea of WTF-identified. As 'WTF was that shit I just read?'

Is it just me who finds the whole thing a bit confusing, as in - is 'WTF' different in terms of who it is targeting from 'W'? If there are 10,000 bike mechanics in America, and only 100 of them are women, and then say, 300,000 blokes who repair their own bikes, and 3,000 women, or whatever it is, then isn't 'W' the priority. I mean you don't have to exclude T, from a W bike mechanic workshop, it just seems a bit odd saying 'WTF'.

After all the average (male) bike mechanic probably has longer hair so is a bit 'F' anyway?

Or alternatively ... they could try running their workshops non-sexistly all the time. HmmThis is the sort of thing which really shouldn't have to be segregated by sex or gender. The notes on what 'allies' should and shouldn't do - most of those should be normal civilised behaviour all the time.

NoseringGirl · 12/02/2019 17:46

This has to be satire...?! Hmm

FloralBunting · 12/02/2019 18:15

Isn't Mariposa a sort of Kays clothing catalogue type thing?

FloralBunting · 12/02/2019 18:16

Ah, no, that's Marisota apparently.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 12/02/2019 18:21

Can someone explain "gender creative" to me please?

I don’t know but to be honest if it includes goggly eyes and PVA glue, I’m probably all for it as long as I’m allowed to glue my hand and peel it off.

'Gender creative' seems to be throwing the baby (actual sex) out with the bath water (gender stereotypes). The woker version of normal gc parenting.

I'm gender creative, I wear willy shaped dildos like deely boppers 🍆🍆

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/02/2019 20:05

Gender creative is when all the rainbow shades get mushed together into the carpet. I believe it's called greb.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/02/2019 20:07

(Back story for greb: )

So they basically employ a couple of females, run bicycle repair shops for anyone and advertise them with a load of gobbledegook because inclusive, and socialise (according to the fb page) by doing a "cookie bake and crafts" evening, because even bicycle-repair-girls need to conform to feminine stereotypes when they're not repairing bicycles!

Pft. WTF indeed.

Yambabe · 12/02/2019 20:19

Aside: I can bake a mean cookie AND repair my own bicycle. Actually, having given it some thought, I may have found my people here......
