Gotta love the good old Daily Fail, I was counting on my many cats giving me the batty single woman vibe but looks like I'll need to get a buddha statue and mess up my wardrobe to make sure I'm fully repellant to men!

I had to look at those photos loads of times to work out which woman was which!

"...advises me not to have novels with ‘depressing titles’ such as Little Deaths or The Suspect. ‘The imagery you have around you needs to be supportive. And strengthening.’"

Books are imagery? Here was me thinking that books were for education and entertainment? All this time they were just ornaments. Silly me. Wink

Thecreosotekid · 11/02/2019 20:52

I’d have thought mine was pretty repellent - loads of pics of adult children and grandchildren, cacti, piles of craft stuff all over the living room, pink and cream colour scheme, fairy lights etc. Yet I’ve still turned down one guy who wanted to move in and attentions of next door neighbour who has a thing about me. Clearly I need to get more cacti, a Buddha for each room and the complete works of Solzhenitsyn into the bookcase.

Babygrey7 · 11/02/2019 20:53

I thought it was a great article

Satire at its best Wink

Bananalanacake · 11/02/2019 20:54

Yes I saw that. What a giggle. But what if you don't want a man to hang round. It's your space not theirs.

NameyMcNameChange1 · 11/02/2019 20:54

I like the ‘vase - another sign of a single woman’. Is it? Also, if she’s wanting to entice a straight male into her lair surely being a single woman is a Good Thing.

Except now I’m reading the DM. There’s an article in the sidebar of shame about Wayne Rooney cheating on his wife again. It was at a pirate themed bar that they’ve taken loads of photos of. And blurred out the faces of the pirate statues at the entrance. And now I really want to know what is so offensive about those pirate statues faces.

Jsmith99 · 11/02/2019 20:55

The Daily Mail is the only national newspaper with a majority female readership. (Source Pressgazette)

Go figure...

NameyMcNameChange1 · 11/02/2019 20:55

Also now wondering what a single man would make of pirate statues in a house.

McTufty · 11/02/2019 20:56

Ridiculous article! Torn between finding it amusing and being narked at the continued assumption women should plan every aspect of their lives around what men will think.

AncientLights · 11/02/2019 20:59

Very helpful article, so many ideas to make my home even more repellent to men. Goody. Now where did I put those gloomy Hammershøi prints of his wife? Must get those up right away.

Acopyofacopy · 11/02/2019 21:11

I am not even sure where to start with this one! Every time I think I’ve heard it all mumsnet offers up a new breathtaking layer of crazy. What a load of bollocks.

I have got one of those in my bedroom Grin It will be put in the bin this week and within a few days I shall be boring everyone to death on the relationships board as I ask how to fight off 100s of suitors

FloralBunting · 11/02/2019 21:27

Damn it. We're not supposed to be repelling men? I wish I'd known this last week before installing that forcefield on the house that keeps pinging the postie back so effectively.

mogtheexcellent · 11/02/2019 21:39

The Daily Mash does a version about middle age women getting short 'mum' haircuts to repel men.

Daily Mash

Its kind of true in my family. Apart from me, I just ate cake and got fat.

2rebecca · 11/02/2019 22:07

Suspect my 4 books on witchcraft may repel more than the crime novels with depressing titles which belong to my husband. What a load of tosh. I love her wallpaper. Women tend to have much nicer and more interesting houses than men. I would be wary of a man who transformed his house just because a design "guru" told him it wasn't what "women" wanted.
Having just paid to have my dressmaking scissors resharpened she needs to invest in some knives though

DorindaLestrange · 11/02/2019 22:10

What I would really find offputting in anyone's house is a copy of the Daily Fail.

Babygrey7 · 11/02/2019 22:11

It also is balanced nicely by this Daily Mash article:

www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/woman-old-enough-to-be-invisible-to-men-actually-quite-pleased-about-it-20190129181879

Grin

I challenge anyone to read a few Daily Mash articles, followed by a Daily Mail article and to NOT feel confused about whether the DM is satire

2rebecca · 11/02/2019 22:17

I'm less anti-fail than I used to be. After feeling abandoned by the Guardian I stopped classing newspapers as good or bad.
I love the mum hair story. Makes me think of the Suzanne Vega song "straight lines" which I love. When I was younger I'd go through phases of having short hair after failed relationships and feeling fed up with a long haired sexy (ish) image.

moimichme · 11/02/2019 22:27

llangennith · 11/02/2019 22:47

I have none of the off-putting-for-men things in my home but I've still been unattached for 30 years😂

lunamoth581 · 11/02/2019 22:56

A man who is repealed by books is not a man I would want in my house.

lunamoth581 · 11/02/2019 22:57

Aaah, “repelled,” not “repealed.”

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 11/02/2019 23:03

Ha ha, its DH that owns most of the crime novels in this house. DH also chose the cacti we used to have - before one of our cats tried to eat it (we do feed them, they're just a bit bonkers). Maybe DH was trying to repel other men instead as some sort of defence against other male competition 🤔

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2019 23:14

Anyone who thinks books don't belong in the bedroom (in addition to the living room, office, etc) is a philistine who can safely be ignored.
