This makes for depressing reading.

But, but, but, Pakistan is much more progressive than the UK! So say all the trans activists.

The whole idea of reserving seats for women, I find very patronising.

I find it disappointing that sexism makes it necessary. It's a short-term correction measure.

Well, it's meant to be, but obviously if you let men take the spaces instead, it won't work.

It might be interesting to see what the 'progressive' MPs etc who seem to think a parliament of 50% men, 50% transwomen would be fine would make of women's seats being lost to biological males in Pakistan.

I'd want to find a different source for the story though - I don't know exactly what that publication is but the part which mentions U.K. politics might be too much of a reality check for them.

Bangladesh and Pakistan haven't been the same country since 1971... They fought a war about it.

Might want to get the OP changed?

Oh bugger, how did I not notice I was perpetuating that mistake.Blush

It is not at all patronising. It is sometimes necessary to force through change, when the inertia of the establishment is too slow.

Seats for men have been reserved for an awful long time; and especially for privileged men - in spite of talent or lack of.

The authoritarian PM of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wazed is Tulip Siddiq's aunt. Siddiq has been strangely silent on human rights abuses in the country.
