www.theaustralian.com.au/news/inquirer/transgender-community-presses-its-case/news-story/339ae657cefab652336e12f333932557?nk=4b839fff9a7adcfbbc690e130e7a830a-1549492268

You may or may not be able to access the story above, however:

  • Evie Amati is the transwoman who attacked people in a 'cotton ceiling' revenge attack following rejection by a woman on a Tinder date, rejection which Amati blamed on transphobia. Amati tacked three people with a large axe. Amati's lawyer blamed gender dysphoria and/or 'lady hormones' in court.
  • A 'media watch' group is swamping the Australian Press Council with complaints about reporting on transgender crime. These complaints are designed to take up all its staff time.

"A small transgender lobby group, Rainbow Rights Watch, took issue with the way her charges had been reported by several major news sites.

It fired off complaints to the press council, arguing that prominent reporting of Amati’s transgender status added to the discrimination already faced by the community and was irrelevant to her alleged criminality.

The Sydney-based group has become a headache for the press council — swamping it with complaints about reporting on transgender issues. The group keeps a low profile but appears to be single-handedly trying to shape reporting on transgender issues by tying up the media in complaints that take many executive hours to resolve. The council’s constituent members will meet today to discuss the body’s handling of issues related to the transgender community."

There has been a notable success for them/their allies, see this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3498420-Press-Council-rules-Daily-Mail-must-not-report-that-woman-accused-of-domestic-violence-killing-is-transgender-because-it-is-irrelevant

where it was ruled that a suspected killer in a domestic violence case should be described only as 'woman', not 'transgender woman'.

Now they want to end all such reporting, and have taken the the Press Council to the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board, from where they have been referred to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

This is the RRW website, which is very uninformative: rainbowrightswatch.org.au/

"Rainbow Rights Watch declined repeated requests from The Australian this week for interviews. But according to documents filed with the corporate regulator, it has three directors — Claire Southey, a technical integration manager; Lilian Dean, an IT architect; and Warner Ward, an IT systems engineer who is also on the board of gay and lesbian counselling service Twenty10."

I have attached an informative picture of Lilian Dean.

I strongly suspect this person is neither gay nor lesbian.

Warner appears to have gone to school here holyfaithclontarf.com/

So I'm assuming Warner is a male-identifying lesbian.

I mean, he literally used the fact that he was on cross sex hormones as a legal defense so it was obviously very relevant, so Rainbow Rights can go fuck themselves.

Ok so i need to report every time oz news lists a male as a woman? It does skew perception of women when they attribute violent male behaviour as "female behaviour" and undermines our point that male violence is a problem in society (i.e. male and females do not commit violent crimes at the same rate)

AngryAttackKittens · 07/02/2019 03:40

So, freedom of the press versus placating the feelings of the perpetually aggrieved? Which principle does society consider more important? I know which one I'd vote for.

Sicario · 07/02/2019 08:28

This is the response I received from the BBC after complaining about Amati being described as a 'woman', which is factually incorrect. They subsequently changed the report to specify 'transgender woman'.

"Thank you for getting in touch about our article reporting that a transgender woman who randomly attacked two people with an axe in an Australian convenience store has been jailed (www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-46914419).

Referring to Evie Amati as a woman in the headline is consistent with our style guide, although we subsequently added the word “transgender” in the opening line and added an update note at the bottom of the article outlining this change.

We hope you’ll find this response satisfactory and thank you once again for getting in touch.

Kind Regards

BBC Complaints Team

Surely this is one sure-fire way to peak-Trans large sections of the Australian media. Sections run by middle aged men who normally would not be interested.

Poor tactics by TRAs. They say they want societal change and acceptance, yet seem to be demanding power and control. Believers in the patriarchy would presumably argue that this is one thing men wont give away.

Yes Need that's what I thought ... surely they would be in effect taking on the entire Australian media? I see a huge push back if so.
