My autocorrect is a bit of a git sometimes!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 09:00

And it’s on T4 again 😆. Is there a Twitter scramble yet?

ClosdesMouches · 02/02/2019 09:01

I expect we'll see quite a few tantrums on Twitter over the next coupke of days.

ClosdesMouches · 02/02/2019 09:01

X post !

Igneococcus · 02/02/2019 09:02

I just made a thread about this article Angry
I thought it was a really interesting article touching so many different aspects of this issue.
Sometimes the Times doesn't allow comments. There is also an article by the editer of the Times and the Sunday Times in today's paper about comments.

One might have thought that GG and other women would have to fight to be heard rather less now than in the 1960s and 70s. But sadly I don't think that is necessarily the case.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 09:02

🍿 watch the show!

CallingDannyBoy · 02/02/2019 09:03

Agree CuriousMonkey - I found it bemusing that she was asserting that she believed in robust debate but that Germaine Greer shouldn’t be allowed to speak. I think she missed the point.

SisterWendyBuckett · 02/02/2019 09:03

That young female student student gave the game away when she said she'd draw the line at having Germaine Greer speak.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 09:04

She probably had no idea who she is - certainly never read a book. They live their lives in 240 characters tweeted by men.

SisterWendyBuckett · 02/02/2019 09:11

What she does know is that Greer says men cannot be women.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 09:13

And are enough for her then? So no analysing this, no reading both sides is the debate - thinking for h’self? Intellectual Neanderthal.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/02/2019 09:14

Think of all the people who've said far more shocking things than Greer has who she doesn't think need to be prevented from speaking.

WSPU · 02/02/2019 09:19

Good piece on this in the Guardian too. This is really important.

Neolara · 02/02/2019 09:33

I thought the interviewer sounded incredulous the student had picked out GG as the worst conceivable hate speach.

I've not read the pieces yet myself, but OP
'I don’t have a share token (the other half has the times subscription on his phone)'

I can use DHs Times subscription, as the user name is his email not his Apple ID - I have the apps on my iPad and iPhone, and can sign into the browser version too.

Ooh thanks errol, I never bothered looking at whether it was possible but will have a go now I know it is!

I also heard that young politics students this morning on R4. The funny thing was that she thought she was actually really open-minded, and happy to listen to different points of view.

Except Germaine Greer. Just in case anyone had misunderstood.

Good girl.

Freespeecher · 02/02/2019 10:43

Very good news! Can't retire my username just yet but a welcome step in the right direction.

DodoPatrol · 02/02/2019 10:56

I do wish they'd stop pitching it as 'feminists who believe that transwomen are still men'.

How about 'people who believe...' instead, so that we include the schoolgirls who'd rather not share changing facilities with someone who was Jack/Liam/Tom last week, and the women banged up for shoplifting who don't want Karen White in their showers? (I get angriest about this in schools and prisons. People can leave jobs, avoid public loos and not join the Guides. In school or prison, you're stuck with the situation.)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 11:58

My old mum was old school so probably wouldn’t have described herself as a feminist. My grandmother neither.

However both did view females as the superior sexual and wounds take any bull from a man.

They would not squally twaw either.

BigGoat · 02/02/2019 12:29

The buck doesn’t stop with students though.

There are plenty of academics and senior administrators who are more than happy to curtail similar discussions.

Hell, the VC of the Uni of Edinburgh even has called the police on GC activists..

Bluestitch · 02/02/2019 12:33

All have been accused of transphobia for expressing the view that trans women cannot lay claim to full womanhood. The guidance makes clear that this view is “lawful”

Somebody needs to forward this to Humberside Police.
