If anyone like myself was "peak transed" by the McKinnon story, and they know of someone who needs convincing about TW's competing in women's sport, then this may help.
I don't know how this went under my radar, but in New Zealand there is a young (21) downhill mountain bike rider called Kate Weatherly, who up to around 14 months ago was competing as a pretty average guy. Within 3 weeks of leaving the male side of the sport, Weatherly won their first women's race, and went on to win the 2018 National New Zealand championships in February of last year.
Weatherly will this year be riding in World Cup events.
Fellow competitors are not happy about it, and I know that I wouldn't be if I was in their situation.

Beup I think you need to get off the be fence

I think she's summed up perfectly what most people actually think about these happenings.

I think that NZ Sporting organisations need to think seriously about what kind of message they are sending to girls and women with these ridiculous decisions.
What is the point of training hard in your chosen sport if you can be suddenly replaced by a cheating male? This has already happened of course with the inclusion of Laurel Hubbard in the NZ weightlifting team, which meant that a young woman lost a chance to represent NZ in an international competition. This case is highlighted in the link below, as well as that of Rachel McKinnon. And apart from girls and women missing out, or being discouraged from taking up a sport in the first place, New Zealand will become known as a country willing to cheat in order to win. Which no Kiwi should be happy about.

What's with the "they" nonsense? Why not just call him "he"? I'm interested to see if my post gets deleted for that!

I have a chrystal ball. I can see into the future. At some point the women’s team will mostly be made up of mediocre men. Infact it might just contain wholly mediocre men claiming to be women and no women. Wouldn’t that be ironic.

This is another, more in depth article about Weatherley, and IMHO it shows the arrogance of the person and the crass stupidity of the sport's governing body.

interactives.stuff.co.nz/2018/03/a-level-playing-field/

"Weatherly hopes she can lift standards in women's downhill.

"I'm quite a confident rider so I hit a lot of jumps which some of the other girls don't."

"She understands the concerns of her fellow competitors, but asks that they take the time to read up on the subject and be considerate - one online post can unleash a flood of transphobic comments."

"Andrew Matheson, CEO of Cycling New Zealand, wouldn't be interviewed.

He says in a statement the organisation's job is to ensure that where possible trans athletes are not excluded, "but at the same time our overriding sporting objective remains to guarantee fair competition".

He won't discuss Weatherly for privacy reasons, but confirms she meets the necessary criteria and will be eligible for international competition if selected."

So, there you have it, the cyclist in question doesn't see anything wrong with their actions and the CEO of Cycling New Zealand doesn't see a problem with cheating - possibly at international level.

They need a transgender class. Then they can win (which is what they want to do) until other transgender athletes turn up to compete with them.
It’s exactly what women have done - I remember being the only entrant in my class for a County competition in my sport. Very happy with my gold medal, I was Grin
