If you were on Question Time, what question would you ask?

In a couple of months BBC Question Time will be filming in my hometown. I'd like to think I'd be brave enough to volunteer a question about self ID but I'm very shy.

If you you had the chance to ask a question, what would it be?

Thanks.

I gave the above example of self ID but I'd like to know in general, what questions would you ask?

Can a woman have a penis?

Iused2BanOptimist · 13/01/2019 15:51

Aren't the questions pre-approved?
In which case you will need an official question. Then when your moment comes ask what you want. I'd say keep it simple.
"What is a woman?"

AspieAndProud · 13/01/2019 15:59

It will depend on who the guests are and what the news events are that week. This week is go for the Challenor story but anything can happen between now and then.

userschmoozer · 13/01/2019 16:00

''Can the panel define 'man' and 'woman'?''

thornyhousewife · 13/01/2019 16:13

@iused2b

Yes you're right, when applying for a ticket you're asked to pose two questions.

I don't know the procedure from there though.

They were filming locally to me just before Christmas. I applied and they called me up to confirm I’d ask a nice juicy question on self id pre vet and when I wouldn’t commit to asking a question they couldn’t get off the phone fast enough.

GerryblewuptheER · 13/01/2019 16:30

What is a homosexual

Cwenthryth · 13/01/2019 17:58

Etino are you saying the QT team wanted a ‘juicy’ question on self ID?

theOtherPamAyres · 13/01/2019 18:30

Should people be allowed to disagree that transwomen are women, or should they continue to be investigated and prosecuted for the hate crime of transphobia?

keeponspinning · 13/01/2019 18:46

What is a woman?

Etino · 13/01/2019 22:19

@Cwenthryth definitely.

BubonicWoman · 13/01/2019 22:22

Tell me why a TW is a woman without using identity

merrymouse · 13/01/2019 22:26

Agree with Aspie - questions will be limited to topics that are newsworthy that week.

BlackForestCake · 14/01/2019 00:33

Do the panel believe that women have penises?

Jenny17 · 14/01/2019 10:55

Are biological men's feelings and "rights" more important than women's and why hasn't the current violence and abuse by trans activists been condemned.

Tano · 14/01/2019 11:52

It is always good to have a "hook" to it, so you have to say something like "In light of what do you think should be done about " - this will give you a much better chance of the producers picking your question.

ShakingAfterAllThis · 14/01/2019 14:56

I asked a question spring last year.

When you arrive, there are slips of paper you can fill out for you to pose questions. You can fill out as many as you would like.

The producers collect in the boxes and go through and select the ones they want, while the 'warm up person' (eg local radio or TV presenter) is doing a mini-act.

Then they call ~10 people to the front. These are the people who have had questions selected. They give you a copy of your question and say you need to give your name and read the question exactly as written.

Not all questions are asked for, as it depends on the timing.

I asked a question re girl guides. My other question 'What is a woman' was also shortlisted, so definitely worth a try with that one.

A succinct question would be good. Linking it to something in the news that week even better, and/or to the interests of at least one of the panel members.

ShakingAfterAllThis · 14/01/2019 14:58

OK. Scrap that ^^.
That was for R4 Any Questions, not BBC1 Question Time.
