A number of leading sporting organisations are reviewing their policy on transgender athletes amid concerns that men who transition to become women could receive an unfair advantage in female sport.

The IOC has a “consensus group” working on the issue and aims to provide updated guidelines this year. The issue is separate to the debate on intersex athletes such as the South African runner Caster Semenya, who is legally challenging the IAAF’s rules that they should have chemically-lowered testosterone.

Not before time.

It sickens me that women will have to lose out in the meantime though. I derive no satisfaction from the fact that I've been banging on about this since 2015, people around me are finally realising that I was right and I bloody TOLD YOU SO. SadAngry

I don't think we'll see many athletes who transed as teens, especially if they were on puberty blockers.
I think they will have spent far too much time naval gazing, going to Appointments with therapists, doctors, GID clinics and not enough time on the sports fields. Their performance and bone health will probably already be damaged by the various hormones they have been on.
Where we do see them it will probably be more female to male than the other way around as they will have benefited from testosterone. But will they want to compete against women?

The winners on the podium will be stunning and brave
Just dont mention the showers and changing rooms. Hmm

Womantheonlykind · 11/01/2019 00:00

Most transwomen athletes were mediocre sports men looking to pick up a less challenging accolade so if they are going to compete against women at levels were pbs and achievements are usually discussed then this needs to be part of the athletic history presented to the public.

The whole presenting a man as a woman and using the threat of punishment to perpetuate an obvious myth needs dealt with on a practical level if the general public are to honestly support transideology (obviously they don't and won't hence the punishment approach).

Oh that Rachel McKinnon..yawn...

Would someone please tell me why a man who is desperate to be a woman would want to keep his penis. I don't understand that at all.

Illyria47 · 11/01/2019 05:04

Terfing · 11/01/2019 06:14

I'm starting to think that Rachel McKinnon is an undercover TERF? She has done so much to peak trans the world.

Possibly because the surgery is very invasive, leads to a requirement for lifelong ongoing care (dilation, hairball removal etc) and doesn't actually result in a vagina. I think it's entirely reasonable for someone to decide that, for them, the risks of that surgery outweigh the benefits.

Personally I think we should stop talking about whether or not someone has a penis as relevant to their womanhood, and instead talk about whether or not they have a vagina. Vaginas only in womens spaces! Vaginas only in womens sports!

Datun · 11/01/2019 08:49

Who knows why they don't have surgery. For some it will be the risk's not worth it, others because they like their penis very much. It depends on the motivation to transition.

I agree with Quentin, it's irrelevant. It's not an indication of intent, and even if it was, it's relevant to how women feel about men in their spaces.

*irrelevent

teawamutu · 11/01/2019 11:31

Comments are almost entirely heartening.

happydappy2 · 11/01/2019 12:05

Comments are great-people can see the unfairness of allowing male bodies to compete against women. Transwomen are not women, they are transwomen & that should never be considered hate speech.

OlennasWimple · 11/01/2019 13:13

Just dont mention the showers and changing rooms

Or the officials who have to supervise the giving of a urine sample

About time that this was raised by organisations, sporting bodies etc. It looks as if the harassing of Martina Navratilova by the very large cyclist alongside the evident unfairness of Mouncey, Fox et al are starting to have an impact on public awareness.
