Sex Toy accepted then removed CES '19

Tech show CES accepted the Lora DiCarlo Ose for display (it's a vibrator) then later removed it under a laughable reason. CES have a bias against equality too, they have a vacuum, steam cleaner and children's toys in their "female-centred" section, women's "needs" being met eh?

CES 2019: 'Award-winning' sex toy for women withdrawn from show

The Ose robot massager has been banned from CES
A sex toy designed for women has been banned from the technology show CES.

Lora DiCarlo said it had been invited to display its robotic Ose vibrator at CES, after winning an innovation award.

CES organiser the Consumer Technology Association, which granted the award, said it had included the device by mistake and could withdraw any immoral or obscene entry at any time.

Lora DiCarlo chief executive Lora Haddock said the CES and CTA had a history of gender bias.

In a statement to The Next Web, the CTA said: "The product does not fit into any of our existing product categories and should not have been accepted.

"We have apologised to the company for our mistake."

But, in a statement on the Lora DiCarlo website, Ms Haddock cites several examples of other female-oriented products included in the award category the vibrator was in.

"Two robotic vacuum cleaners, one robotic skateboard, four children's toys, one shopping companion robot - looks like all of women's interests are covered, right?" she said.

"Ose clearly fits the robotics and drone category - and CTA's own expert judges agree."

The product had been designed in partnership with a robotics laboratory at Oregon State University and had eight patents pending for "robotics, biomimicry, and engineering feats", Ms Haddock said.

"We firmly believe that women, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and LGBTQI folks should be vocally claiming our space in pleasure and tech," she said.

Ms Haddock said there was a double-standard at CES when it came to sexual health products targeted at men versus women.

"Men's sexuality is allowed to be explicit, with a literal sex robot in the shape of an unrealistically proportioned woman and VR porn in point of pride along the aisle," she said.

The products she is referring to are the RealDoll sex robot Harmony, which debuted at last year's event, and a room showcasing virtual reality porn off the main conference in 2017.

The VR porn room was reportedly visited more than 1,000 times in its first day of opening.

This year, an unofficial shuttle bus is taking people from the conference site to a legal brothel for a sex-video experience controlled by an Amazon Echo speaker.

Twitter users have reacted to the decision using the hashtag #CESGenderBias.

'Why is CES threatened by empowered women and the products that empower them?" wrote one user.

'CES is literally one big sex toy for men and that's always been OK,' said another.

Sorry, can't understand a word of that Confused

ElonMask · 09/01/2019 18:17

Oh FFS, I need to turn off the internet today. What use does a gender non conforming man have for one of these toys that a gender conforming one doesn't?

LittleLongDog · 09/01/2019 18:33

@Melroses

A Technology show (CES) shows various new tech under different categories.

It had included a vibrator in the show but later decided not to, stating they were allowed to withdraw any immoral or obscene entry at any time.

BUT they are allowing sex related tech in the tech show, the difference being that it is aimed at men (a sex robot and a virtual reality porn room).

OP (and others) are saying that the choice to remove the vibrator from the show is gender bias.

Also, the event is showing itself to be even more sexist by essentially including items such as a robotic hoover under a ‘female’ section of the show.

Melroses · 09/01/2019 18:38

LOL - in the 1980s there was much talk about vacuum cleaners being used as sex toys by men Grin.

Gronky · 09/01/2019 18:41

Also, the event is showing itself to be even more sexist by essentially including items such as a robotic hoover under a ‘female’ section of the show.

I believe that the manufacturer of the sex toy categorised them as being female specific items, rather than the organisers (I really hope it was sarcastically):

"Two robotic vacuum cleaners, one robotic skateboard, four children's toys, one shopping companion robot - looks like all of women's interests are covered"

*men

And also that sounds seedy as hell.

And they think vibrators for women is obscene Hmm

Gronky · 09/01/2019 18:49

And they think vibrators for women is obscene

That would be something that's unapproved by the organisers, hence it being unofficial.

QuentinWinters · 09/01/2019 18:51

thatwould literally was about to post the same Envy

TalkingintheDark · 09/01/2019 18:52

Bloody hell. Glaring double standards. And agreed that the shuttle bus thing sounds just... vile.

Was this the same thing where last year the sex doll robot was completely trashed by all the men who used it?

BlindYeo · 09/01/2019 19:04

Oh god I remember the sex doll discussion from last year. Gross. Yes it's a total double standard. Mind you if they were all wanking away in a VR porn room maybe we could do away with prostitution. Oh except that won't happen because some of them like abusing actual women, it's part of the thrill (would like to be proved wrong though).

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/01/2019 19:11

Iirc the sex robot doll wasnt just jazzed on it was badly damaged/broken as well - but yes, let's carry on catering for men who are so fucked up they can't even treat a robot that looks like a woman with an decency.

Gronky · 09/01/2019 19:12

Oh god I remember the sex doll discussion from last year.

That wasn't CES, it wasn't even in America, it was at the Arts Electronica Festival in Austria. I agree that it's all incredibly disgusting but it's not a double standard on the part of CES, just prudish.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/01/2019 19:14

Jazzed, autocorrect?

BlindYeo · 09/01/2019 19:17

My paragraph bad.

AssassinatedBeauty · 09/01/2019 19:20

The sex doll mentioned in the opening post was at CES in 2018.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/01/2019 19:21

Grozny they still had a sex robot at CES last year. So yes double standards.

Gronky · 09/01/2019 19:31

My apologies, I had seen the robot head from CES last year but wasn't aware that it was for sexual purposes. The one that was broken by visitors to the exhibition was definitely a different event, it's rather hard to see how they could break the fingers of this unnerving thing.

Thanks for posting OP I saw this earlier and it really pissed me off.

This comment in particular at the end of the article made me smile though:
"CES is literally one big sex toy for men and that's always been OK"

PP is right it sounds like an incredibly hostile environment for women.
I'm sick to the back teeth of it TBH.

Flywheel · 09/01/2019 21:40

I read this earlier and initially thought fair enough - it's just not a suitable platform for the product. Until I read about the sex doll and the shuttle bus. Ffs. Complete double standards.
However, fantastic publicity for the product

QuietContraryMary · 09/01/2019 22:10

I am not really sure what's happened here, because these stories tend to be a mess of lies and misdirection.

AFAICT, the sex toy was given an award. This award was then taken away because they don't want to give awards to vibrators, which is fair enough really.

The other things they were referring to were NOT given awards, they were merely paying to exhibit.

SimplySteve · 09/01/2019 22:24

@LittleLongDog Thanks for translating my horrendous OP into readable, understandable, text! And indeed my opinion of it too. Grateful. SmileThanksStar

True story, although I was too young then. Nowadays us men just buy a special silicone sleeve that fits on the top of a magic wand. Insert dick-in-sleeve, and go go go. Not that I've ever used my missus magic wand in this way, you understand WinkBlush

SimplySteve · 09/01/2019 22:31

And yes, CES has a long history of providing sexual toys for men at their shows to fuck, jizz in/over. Long history of seedy sex clubs and the like too.

Sometimes, lots of times, I truly hate being male.

OP posts:
Melroses · 09/01/2019 22:34

Kind of ironic that the descendants of hoover dustettes are now back in the female section - no doubt your silicon sleeve will be returned there with a more mundane use at future events. Washing up glove?

SimplySteve · 09/01/2019 22:42

You're not. Buying sex is about power and control. Making it a transaction removes consent and gives the man the power and control to do what he likes.

There was a story reported locally, underground (I'm extremely active in sexual matters, D/s, tantric sex and many others on some sex boards for over 20 years with numerous personal experiences - none ever including money or lack of consent/trigger flags. Having my partner quiver with anticipation is my absolute drug. Sorry, been posting in detail on a prostitution thread), a young local prostitute had a man buy a blowjob. He was so rough he broke both her front teeth and caused blood vessels in her upper throat to burst. (She attended A&E). All ok because he "paid for it" though, right? As some men on a board frequented by men like this wrote. Comments like "should've broken more teeth" and "he got his money's worth good on him" and "these slutty whores and those who dress like them deserve all of it" prevalent. Oops, apologies for the sidetrack, just makes my piss boil so much.
