Some women's groups that are asking for support (£££) over Christmas

Got this info as part of an emailing. And I am sure many on mumsnet are supporting their local women's aid group and / rape crisis centre.

But thought I would share:

I now see things like "Women in Prison Christmas Appeal' and think of all those men in women's prisons and wonder if any of my money would go to them. Not a nice feeling.

userschmoozer · 21/12/2018 00:38

You can send e-cards to support Women In Prison and they are a women only support organisation.

BubonicTheHedgehag · 21/12/2018 00:48

Do all the listed organisation have safeguarding in place for women and children?

stumbledin · 21/12/2018 00:58

Oh dear - what a lot of questions.

If anyone wants to donate surely the best thing is to go to the web page of the organisation and see!

I just thought that at a time of year when no doubt a lot of people are spending a lot on food and dring and entertainment, to spare a bit for women and children in a refuge might be worth considering.

Its a bit like when I posted about reclaim the night marches. It seemed because some marches were organised by students and were a lot about a queer trans agenda all RTN marches were just not considered. But many of them were organised by local Rape Crisis centres. I thought it really sad to see in at least 3 towns 5 or 6 women who had organised the march getting no local support.

Think of the power of mumsnetters if they formed local women's groups who could act as support for women service providers, and help them fight funders trying to stop them being women only services. And not forgetting that some local women's groups have provided a supportive space for young women at universities isolated and bullied because they aren't buying into the trans agenda.

The dislocation between the diminishing number of women service providers and women who are activists is helping the state pick them off one by one.

Sad

You have not answered my question as to whether all your personal recommendations for charity and money are solid about awareness for protecting women and children against predatory men.

The Dundee woman's air works with everyone who identifies as a woman.

My local surestart has done a red box appeal which is possibly national.

Tackling period poverty in schools.

Thank you anyone donating to the prison ones. I have a female friend who has done time largely due to mental health issues resulting from male sexual abuse. Sadly very common.

Prison did wonders for her, got her correctly medicated, off the booze, counselling and on the freedom programme. She is 9 months sober

Pandamodium · 21/12/2018 03:43

Posted to soon.

I know she appreciated every small kindness while inside.

I'm pleased someone remembers these women at Christmas.

AwkwardSquad · 21/12/2018 06:22

Thanks for this, stumbledin, I donate to Refuge every month but want to give to some other women’s charities this Christmas as well. I think I’m going to go for my local Women’s Aid, and Southall Black Sisters because they’re brilliant and have been battling on for years now.

RustyParker · 21/12/2018 06:25

I've supported Re Box Project locally but have noticed they now refer to helping "young people" rather than girls.

I hadn't heard of Women in Prison but am definitely going to send an e-card and a donation.

Pandamodium So glad to hear your friend is doing well and is one of the reasons I am going to do the Women in Prison e-card Flowers

AwkwardSquad · 21/12/2018 06:39

Right, have now acted on this prompt! I’ve found the local women’s refuge and donated. It was set up in 1976 so it’s one of the first wave of refuges.

AwkwardSquad · 21/12/2018 07:00

And have now done the Southall Black Sisters donation.

StarsAndWater · 21/12/2018 07:00

Thanks for this stumbledin. I'll take a look.

StarsAndWater · 21/12/2018 07:11

Just donated to Refuge. Thanks for the prompt OP. Smile

Pandamodium · 21/12/2018 07:33

I'm going to do one too Rusty Smile

Does anyone know of any charity's supporting women in psychiatric hospitals? I can obviously google but would take a personal recommendation first.

I agree. But in order to do this, we would need a list of organisations that are currently women-only (single sex) and intend on staying that way. Is this such a list, OP?

Popchyk · 21/12/2018 09:29

Women in Prison consider men who identify as women to be women and support the right of men to be transferred to women's prisons.

"WIP respects the right of any individual to transition. Drawing on our experience in providing support, we recognise the significant difficulties that this often involves. We support the right of transgender people to access services that meet their needs."

Women already did this, they spent decades and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds. When they got funds from outside sources they were told to include men or lose their funding.
