Does your local police force have a dedicated service staffed by trans people for trans people to report hate crimes?

Probably not. It's interesting that West Yorkshire does.

Yup, Aspie. There is a unit dedicated to being avoidably annoyed by the Internet.

littlbrowndog · 18/12/2018 23:14

But shouldn’t the polis just be doing their jobs. Catchin* criminals
Not arsing about with idiots
When did the police suddenly become the morals police

doctorbarbie · 18/12/2018 23:21

I imagine this work isn't taking up a great deal of time in the grand scheme of times. Although, it is galling considering it took the police a week to arrest and remove a violent partner from my property.

The concern is that some people seem to have access to the police in a way that may be damaging to people who speak out against them.

There are connections being made amongst people and institutions and they are being used against those who are speaking out. It's seeming like a bit of a stitch up.

Is Rotherham in West Yorkshire...trots of to look at a map. (These Londoners. At least I know Manchester is in the Wst and Leeds in the East. Otherwise I might struggle to tell them apart.)

littlbrowndog · 18/12/2018 23:26

I dunno docbarbie this stuff all takes time for them to do
Weird how certain ppl have access to get the polis yet the ordinary ppl can’t
What’s the pull them ppl have on them
It’s totally shite how they can do this

AncientLights · 18/12/2018 23:34

Needmoresleep Rotherham is in South Yorks. Posie had also said on her FB video that she'll be interviewed by her local police in Trowbridge in the new year. What happened in Hitchen?

Finfintytint · 18/12/2018 23:35

Littlebrown, it depends on what is trending. It depends on what will give a force awards for diversity and being inclusive. The real victims of hate crime get left by the wayside. Most coppers know this but are pawns in the fuckwittery of senior management bubble of "I must appear inclusive without any critical thinking or I may not get promoted" waffle.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 18/12/2018 23:38

Not so long ago West Yorks police told DH that criminal damage and theft of his property was a civil matter and nothing to do with them. I wonder if they'd have acted differently if he'd self id'ed as a woman 🤔

littlbrowndog · 18/12/2018 23:38

But the whole thing is just biazzare
It’s like green has a private police force running about doing her biddingb

littlbrowndog · 18/12/2018 23:40

So crime is not trending now

Really just really ffs

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/12/2018 23:44

What happened in Hitchen

One of our favourite "lawyers" set the police on a female in Hitchen because they were "harassing" them. Same "lawyer" now claims to have an injunction against this woman to prevent her "misgendering" them.

It's funny how these individuals always to after those they perceive as weaker than them.

Finfintytint · 18/12/2018 23:45

Yes of course crime is trending. Proper crime is always trending. My point is that trendy crime is also at the forefront and those who shout loudest get heard.

InOrder · 18/12/2018 23:50

Godwin's law has been suspended - for a reason.

littlbrowndog · 18/12/2018 23:55

But how do they get heard fin?
That’s the bit I don’t understand
If I don’t have a trendy crime
It’s just me car got broke into yet I can’t afford to get window fixed
So me and car not trendy enough

littlbrowndog · 18/12/2018 23:56

So the polis work on trendy crime. Is that a policy now ?

Finfintytint · 19/12/2018 00:12

Yes, there are a handful of officers that get heard. It may be that Diversity crimes get more attention (there will be a handful of officers pushing this priority throughout the force). Sometimes it is right sometimes it is wrong but the majority of the public just want the crimes that affect them to be prioritised. I.e. burglary, criminal damage, car crime, etc. Other communities want hate crime, ASB etc prioritised. You get the police force you vote for.

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/12/2018 09:03

There is a post earlier this year that says that in her TEDx talk susie green says that her child’s close friend while they were transitioning is a member of the West Yorkshire police hate crime unit.

I havent seen the talk so I can’t verify this. However if true, it’s interesting.

TimeLady · 19/12/2018 09:21

The North Yorks police hate crime section was clearly written by the work experience student:

Hate crime is any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice based on a person’s:
Disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender:
Perceived disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender

northyorkshire.police.uk/what-we-do/tackling-crime/crimes-against-the-person/hate-crime/

On a person's "transgender"?Confused Have they invented a new noun?

TimeLady · 19/12/2018 09:34

Just having a nose around the WYP website, I came across this:

Members of the public and local Police Officers come together every six weeks to scrutinise how the Police have responded to hate crime / incident reports. These are called Scrutiny Panels.
The Panel will select a sample of reports made and look at how they have been dealt with. Their recommendations are acted upon as appropriate.

www.westyorkshire.police.uk/advice/abuse-anti-social-behaviour/hate-crime/hate-crime-hate-incidents/hate-crime-scrutiny-panels

It would be interesting to see who is on the WYP Hate Crime scrutiny panel.

UpstartCrow · 19/12/2018 09:43

Trans activists claim the third space option won't work because there aren't enough trans people to make them work.

I'm glad to see their fears are not justified.

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/12/2018 09:49

A crime still needs to have been committed to be a hate crime.

Satire is not a crime.

scrutiny panels. that doesn’t sound like something from the ministry of truth at all Confused

An interesting FOI request would be:

Officer hours per week spent
Minutes of scrutiny panels
Percentage activity spent on race/disability/religion/based hate crimes vs transgender (isnt the protected category gender reassignment?)

Also note which actually protected characteristic isn’t there? Why, sex!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/12/2018 09:56

A crime still needs to have been committed to be a hate crime

I'm not entirely sure the same laws apply to TRAs...

Pulltheotheroneitsgotbellson · 19/12/2018 10:59

Leeds Council is betting its future as LGBT central so probably the "friendly" police are all part of the draw card.

W Yorks is misogyny central and always has been.....

Popchyk · 19/12/2018 11:37

Did anyone see this adjudication of an FOI request?

Information Commissioner Decision Notice

Somebody asked to see the correspondence between West Yorkshire Police and Mermaids.

WYP responded that it would be too time-consuming to provide that information (section 12). Then then had an internal review and stated that they were no longer relying on section 12 and were rejecting the request based on section 14 (vexatious request).

Later, WYP stated that they were now rejecting section 14 and were now relying on section 12 (too time-consuming) to reject the request.

Lots of alarm bells ringing there.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 19/12/2018 11:53

If the FOI request could be tightened up time wise, so just between x date and y date, and those dates are not too expansive, they would probably not be able to use the time consuming excuse. Depends on how lengthy a period the original FOI covered.
