I just seen this

business.financialpost.com/news/retail-marketing/jj-shares-drop-on-report-company-knew-of-asbestos-in-baby-powder

One woman was awarded compensation after she got ovarian cancer after using J&J baby powder for feminine hygiene. and there are thousands of ongoing pending cases

Bumping this, and you might want to post it in Chat or AIBU.

Most babies in the 60s, 70s and 80s would have been doused with baby powder. I used it on my face as a teenager ( as powder), girls used instead of dry shampoo, and lots of us, and our Mums, were coated in talc after baths. I loved patting on talc with the huge puff. I now dread to think what might be lurking inside me.
I don’t this this is unique to Baby Powder, i assume all talc might contain asbestos ? Ditto eyeshadows etc that have talc as an ingredient, hence asbestos in some eyeshadows sold in Claire’s last year ?

I may be wrong but I understand talc naturally has asbestos in it when it is mined, and that to make it safe companies have to have the asbestos removed. this would of course cost money and it appears J&J would rather just keep it in to save money and keep it quiet

J&J's slogan happens to be "J&J Cares." It should be "J&J Cares about profit"

Ah ok. I also assume that talc naturally has asbestos in, but i don’t see how it is possible to remove it. Maybe there is a way ?
I thought that J and J found out that talc contained asbestos, but didnt let on, however your theory sounds more likely .
