Good practice is based on listening to the child's needs and enabling them to express their wishes

Only posting because the recommendation seems to be based on thinking the series was without flaws - not what one would want or expect from professionals Shock

No, there is no awareness of safeguarding, none. There isn't even a glance of acknowledgement that it should be considered. When I wrote to WH to thank them for their coverage, I specifically stated my dismay at how this issue had not been properly addressed. I may also have added that I was thankful that Layla Moran was no longer a teacher and children would be safer due to this.

I wonder if we're lacking anyone to speak out about it from a Social Care perspective. We're not known for our abilities in the media after all. It is most concerning. However, I can say that my colleagues get it. As soon as you start to point out the immediate difficulties, they can see how dangerous affirmation can be, and the plethora of safeguarding issues it all presents. What's going on elsewhere, I don't know.

There's a definite need for a WPUK speaker steeped in Safeguarding practice and working experience

Seems likely it would best be someone who has retired.

There's a massive chunk of nonsense repeated about policies and risk assements being 'safeguarding' that needs debunking.

(I had the same thought listening to Layla Moran)

I have seen a specific worker start to use their language in single assessments such as 'Jane is a female child and identifies as a girl' even that irked me quite a bit. I don't want gender identity guff brought in to cases where it's not a pertinent issue it's just empty work.

My authority hasn't issued specific material yet but they do favour a course that is about inclusive practice but is heavy on gender identity. The course leader told me confidently that gender confusion was a biological issue caused in the womb. Wasn't impressed at all.

I think letting mermaids and their ilk influence sw is very dangerous. So far and this is based on my experience alone I haven't met a child with dysphoria who didnt have a history of sexual abuse. I'll be surprised if I ever do.
