So apparently Goldman Sachs (huge US investment bank) has officially said that they will pay for any transgender employees to have gender reassignment surgery as an employee benefit. What do people think about this?

It would be paid for by the health insurance policy I presume, rather than directly from GS. If you want to include additional cover in your policy, the premiums will be proportionately higher, plus the discount you get on the policy, by virtue of it being a corporate rate, is taxable. So it's not quite as straightforward as, hey boss I want to have gender transition surgery, please pay for it.
When I worked there there was a MtF trans person there (London office about 5 yrs ago), no idea about surgery tho.
I will say it was one of the most toxic and misogynistic places I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Still have nightmares!

I think we had a thread on this the other week?

I dimly remember saying something like I don't have a problem with it, as long as they don't conflate sex with gender in things like data collection (to analyse promotions, salary etc) and the provision of single sex facilities (like gym changing rooms)

I've had contact with GS through work recently. The idiot with whom I have been dealing has got a number of things wrong, that he really should know in his line of work. His acceptances that I was right and he was wrong, start 'good news!' And somehow don't mention anything about him having changed his conclusion.

I have been stunned at how sloppy the whole GS structure is - their system used the wrong exchange rate, and showed the wrong dates of disposal. So they are toxic and misogynistic and useless, but do pay for trans surgery. Priorities, priorities.

If companies really want to be inclusive and/or support women they should start to pay for HRT and other menopause-related treatment given that for the most part it is excluded from private medical insurance cover.

AspieAndProud · 07/12/2018 20:09

how are they on maternity leave/time off for looking after children/job share/equal pay etc etc.

They’ll get right into that as soon as womb ‘transplants’ are available for transwomen.

I'll go out on a limb and they have an eye to meeting their affirmative action quota without fostering a career path for women who might object to certain behavior.

Affirmative action quota ...

I have to say, that sounds rather plausible.

Meeting their quotas without having to hire any women.

I think a lot of people might want jobs there for the wrong reasons

Good luck getting one though.

Goldman Sachs is probably the most difficult investment bank to get your foot in the door of, and investment banking is already a difficult industry to break into.
