Saw this on reddit.
gaychristiangeek.blogspot.com/2012/07/bear-bow-and-boy-queering-pixars-brave.html

1950's logic: Tough and Brave=Boys, Helpless and weak= Girls
2018 logic: Tough and Brave=Boys, Helpless and weak= Girls
Nothing has changed.

When shows like Wonder Woman, Xena, and Buffy came out, it showed girls that women can be brave, tough, and hero's. This was a change in the right direction. Now in 2018, if a girl is brave or tough, then she isn't a girl, but a boy. Apparently, we are going back to telling girls that only boys can be the hero, only boys can save the world, and that girls have to be the victim so they can be saved by the hero. I mean, gee, can't understand why so many girls hate being girls and wished they were boys 🙄

Actually Merida typifies a very stubborn, strong willed young lady who won't let anyone stand in her way, and by the way is never seen in pink. Just what we should be teaching our girls to be, who will always be child/adult human females no matter what.

What the actual horrible fuck did I just read?

I cried buckets at Brave because the mother-daughter relationship cut me to the bone. No. You can't have her. People need to leave female characters alone!

BlackForestCake · 04/12/2018 21:23

This is the first “radical” writing I have ever seen that takes the existence of princes and princesses completely for granted.

silent

Unfortunately for both dd and i, i am most definitely the bear Grin

And BTW she's Scottish. And Scottish girls are not raised to be shy, retiring flowers in the main. Flora McDonald, Catherine Barlass, and many more. The only person dressing as another sex in either of those stories was Prince Charlie! I'm assuming no one is saying he's a trans women.

I recently saw a Mohawk woman talking about her, her mother and her sisters. Utterly amazing family of fearless, strong women. Not men, women. Strong, brave warrior women.

Just because someone has internalized some sad version of femininity, doesn't mean every culture agrees with them.

I can shoot a bow and arrow too, and only got married because it was convenient (not that I don't love my DH, we just might not have gotten married in different circumstances). Am I also a bloke?

Genderists make The Flintstones look progressive.

Also based on this and other threads here I'm coming to the conclusion that Scots are statistically overrepresented in the "not bloody well having this sexist bollocks" segment of the opposition to genderism. Which should surprise absolutely nobody.

FFS, can they no see Merida is just trans-northern?
and her mum is clearly a furry Hmm

TheMagician · 05/12/2018 06:16

oh that is so stupid. I loved merida and i've never for a moment wanted to be male. so stoopid.

Igneococcus · 05/12/2018 06:23

I read this thread title to 14 year old dd yesterday, who looked up from her book briefly to say "No, it is not!" very firmly and then returned to her book, It didn't even merit an eye roll.

CrazyToast · 05/12/2018 20:42

Guess that means Aria Stark and Katniss Everdeen are trans boys too. We girls are left with the Bella Swans and Ana Steeles.

AngryAttackKittens · 06/12/2018 00:17

Nah, transwomen will be wanting the gormless ones who enjoy being spanked.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/12/2018 07:34

What about the ugly sisters? Deffo...

I just remembered the Merida meet and greet at Disneyworld. It’s a little different than the others. You get to look at all sorts of carvings and weapons while you wait. After you meet Merida you get to the real highlight. The child, normally a little girl in a princess dress, gets to fire a real bow and arrow. Of course it is magically charmed to fly true. It is an awesome experience and a great example for the kids.
