So apparently we don't need feminism any more, because we have equality... And then... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46435168

For those that haven't seen it, footballer Ada Hegerberg was being presented with the prestigious Balloon D'Or, and the presenter asked her if she knows how to twerk. But he apologised and said "she understood it was a joke". So that's ok then. I'm sure she understood it was a shit, belittling and sexist joke. Her face told a story, for sure.

The sad thing is that this would just fall out, without him considering how inappropriate it was. Good to see the shock and criticism from others (make and female).

Today I was at work, walking along, thinking about something. I walked towards a colleague to speak to him, he was standing next to someone (an executive level man from our organisation that I've never met). For some reason this man felt it necessary to say to me, a stranger, "smile! Let's see that face light up! You might pretend you are happy at work!" My male colleague looked askance. I just said "I don't need to plaster a fake smile on my face and pretend I'm happy. I am happy. But thanks" Cue a little back-pedalling...

Wouldn't it be nice to have a world where women didn't have to put up with this insidious shit (and yes, I know, rape, DV, famine, disease is worse, I have room to care about both).

It's really bizarre that the women were expected to have a dance with him too. All very Seb Blatter.
I'm still waiting for that eejit Gordon Taylor from the PFA to fall on his sword.
Clear all of these long serving feckers out who are clinging to their cosy lucrative positions, and that's when we might move forwards a bit.

We can only hope..

I suppose it’s grounds for cautious optimism that at least this shit provokes a storm of protest nowadays, instead of just a shrug.

She looked like she wanted to smack him, and I don't blame her. Why do they have to dance with the presenter? Bloody ridiculous.

SylvanianFrenemies · 05/12/2018 17:48

Thank you @tyneteas! That sums it up all too well.

It was a power move from a little man uncomfortable with a female athlete excellingnin a sport he probably failed at but still defines his masculinity.
His little Winky shrivelled up and he lashed out... her face deserves to be carved into a mountainside
Her dress was Fab too but that's probably another coversation

HollowTalk · 05/12/2018 17:52

Honestly that guy was the dimmest person on the planet. Has the whole #MeToo campaign gone past him?

She looked really shocked. I wish she'd had the time to think of a really sharp retort but can't blame her for not. But what a way to take the shine off that woman, the bastard.

'I will answer your question when you have asked the same question of the other men'.
Any other ideas?

MrGHardy · 05/12/2018 20:07

ESPN made a youtube video: "Mbappe left stunned as..."

Because even when it's about the best female footballer in the world, you gotta mention a man in the title.

Fuck that puny man and his shallow "apology"
