Was just ncing to post 😂

Stickywhitelovepiss · 29/11/2018 19:56

They are making a whole episode of it by the looks of it.

Don’t watch normally but flat mate had it on and very topical.

eastendersis · 29/11/2018 19:56

I was thinking the same!

Etino · 29/11/2018 19:56

Was this trailed? I came on here to start a thread, I haven’t watched for 20 years and I’ve stumbled across it? Is there a back story? It’s excellent.

Stickywhitelovepiss · 29/11/2018 19:57

Etino exact same as me! So came straight to MN.

I need to go back and watch on iPlayer I felt quite stunned!

And really pleased

AspieAndProud · 29/11/2018 20:08

Mumsnet has just been referenced twice on Emmerdale.

AspieAndProud · 29/11/2018 20:10

The Emmerdale stuff being about seeking help in removing paint from children’s faces, not about us radicalising transphobes.

Etino · 29/11/2018 20:12

You ok @easterendersis?
I was in tears due to DV job and being so sick of the patriarchy rather than personal experience.
Wow again.

I really enjoyed this ep. so good of them to spend the whole ep discussing the very real different views and opinon on it. Im team Denise. she spoke sense i wosh everyone would see re consent. veryy interesting to watch

eastendersis · 29/11/2018 20:33

Yes I'm ok. Stunned. When dc in bed I will rewatch

It's really moving EE tackled it

And really stunning how they did

And though I'm pleased I know I will bawl my eyes out rewatching it as will many other women with experiences behind them

I've been told multiple times by men I know, even love... it wasn't rape because.... about a specific experience in my own life which WAS the definition of rape and gone back and forth for years over their comments

I suspect I am probably joined by most women who watch and not at all unique in finding it both stunning, moving and tragically ringing bells uncomfortably close to home

I hope rape crisis increased their telephone line capacity tonight!

Etino · 29/11/2018 21:19

Flowers @eastendersis
I’m slingboxing the footie for DH. Good to be reminded I don’t really hate all men. I couldn’t find a +1 for BBC1- but I’ll iplayer it later tonight

arranbubonicplague · 29/11/2018 21:22

Sadly, Rape Crisis is appallingly underfunded (I don't use that lightly):

Rape Crisis services are incredible but MASSIVELY UNDERFUNDED.
There’s a 5.5 month average wait for access to counselling, in some areas it’s 2yrs. At niaendingVAWG ELRCnia it is average of 10.5 months.
This is supposed to be a crisis response

I posted the other night about a conversation between Stacy and Martin in the same vein. Will check back when it was if anyone wants to find the episode, was worth a watch. Both episodes have made me a bit emotional tbh, unexpected from the BBC.

Hidingtonothing · 29/11/2018 21:26

It was Tuesday last week, 20/11.

eastendersis · 29/11/2018 21:32

Just finished watching up to where I tuned in earlier.

Didn't actually cry how I thought I would

It was done brilliantly though and I think could easily be cloned as comments if you put any group of adults together with the article about Ruby and watched what happened

Denise and Rebecca were excellent

And the male viewpoints so sadly representative of men everywhere

The point about you need to be some mans daughter, sister etc was very sad and truthful

Who wrote this episode???

ToeToToe · 29/11/2018 21:39

I haven’t watched for 20 years and I’ve stumbled across it?

Same here weirdly! (Well, about 15 years.) I had no inkling this was going on, and it came on when I randomly switched on the tv. It was like an old-style FWR thread going on in the Queen Vic. Couldn't believe it! Good to see it being discussed.

(The only characters I knew were Kat and Mo, Stacey, Martin, Sharon and Ian.)

AspieAndProud · 29/11/2018 23:37

There was a reference to The Handmaid’s Tale. ‘Where are you getting this from? Is it the book by your bedside - that one with the bonnets?’

Etino · 30/11/2018 01:39

Finally caught up.
Just brilliant.

DioneTheDiabolist · 30/11/2018 04:46

I'm in NI. The other day Sean Mc Farland copped a guilty plea on making public, the name of the Ulster Rugby Rape trial victim.

This episode condensed the many arguments that accompanied this trial. I thought it was very pertinent and well written.

Sean Mc Farland was only fined £300.Angry

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 30/11/2018 19:31

Just watched the episode. I thought it was really well done and moving. Well done EE!
