Housewives hands??? Everyday sexism? Should I address this with the manufacturers as they seem to be implying only housewives use cleaning products?Angry

Fucks sake....everyday sexism. Wankers.

Its a speshul kind of ladylike chemical irritation. Like housemaids knee which is prepatellar bursitis, if you are a person man.

Mamaogden · 22/11/2018 21:46

Its an old fashioned term. Please don’t take offence and demean everything that our foremothers went through. Its from the days when housewives destroyed their hands doing things like the washing by hand.

But it's treating modern people, I'm not diminishing burdens of women in the past, but we live in modern times where men should take equal responsibility for using cleaning products. Would a man be diagnosed with housewives hands? Or simply dermatitis caused by contact with cleaning products?

It's medical literature FFS and IMHO should reflect the condition being treated today not use archaic terminology in order to not demean women's inequality in the past

I got really terrible houseeives hands a few years ago. Took my hands 3 years to recover after I accidentally put my hands in the liquid I was prewashing my baby’s clothes in. Comes back every winter. Funniy enough, never happened to her dad..,

Women doing the housework. Shocker.

olderthanyouthink · 22/11/2018 22:37

Shouldn't it be contact dermatitis with maybe an aka housewife's hands?

Proper name and then the common term for people who aren't familiar with the medical term.

RonSwansonsTurfNTurf · 22/11/2018 22:45

I agree olderthanyouthink

Sorry I'm struggling to interpret your tone Ogden do you agree that terminology should remain HW hands as in your house you are more in contact with cleaning products than your partner?

I just mean don’t take offence. I’m sorry I know I come across a bit touchy sometimes. I’m off now.🚶🏽‍♀️
