"If you find yourself caring about what's between someone's legs, then you are a part of the problem. Being a woman is not enough, women have to support other women. We need good women in politics"

I am so sad about this. The Fawcett Society, ffs. Mhari Black, ffs.

I guess it must just be a coincidence then that I have never been catcalled, flashed, groped or physically assaulted by a person with a vagina between their legs.

And before anyone asks, yes I can tell.

I didn't know Mhairi was a lesbian - which makes her genitals comment pretty daft - but I do know she's overrated and being a sweaty Mary may make you appear "cool" to the woke crew - but I'd rather see your IQ.

You'd have thought given the prevalence of lesbians in Scottish politics at least one of them would be on top of this.

(sweary)

It's not genitals that we observe and are or are not attracted to, it's secondary sexual characteristics. These come about because of biological sex just as much as genitals, but they're not caused by genitals but by chromosomes and hormones. this

Genitals aren't irrelevant but it's about secondary sexual characteristics too, the whole complicated package of human biological sex. Robert Webb has a bit in his book where an older man is leering and being inappropriate and it makes him feel uncomfortable but he makes the very pertinent point that it would gave been a lot worse and he would have felt threatened as opposed to uncomfortable if the man had been significantly bigger and stronger (as pretty much all human xy are when compared to human xx). Size matters, sex matters, the two are linked.

Just remember, she's not so long out of student politics...

That was my first thought. She's also young enough not to have really experienced that much in the way of gendered shitwork expectations, since that doesn't tend to kick in at her stage of life. I've no doubt she's experienced plenty of sexism in her political career, in fact I think she's said as much, but it often takes more than that to make a woman understand exactly how it's sex not gender that's the root of our oppression. Although maybe someone should ask her if she thinks she could've just identified out of being patronised by older male MPs.

And she's now got the kind of income which means she likely never will.

She retweets LittleOwenJones.
I'm unsurprised

I’ve always disliked Mhairi Black. I find her unimpressive and more than a little bit sanctimonious and irritating.

Yes me too. I never saw what was supposed to be so impressive about her. She swears a lot- is that it?

dementedma · 22/11/2018 22:26

she's supposed to be uber cool and much loved by SNP fans. in reality she has little life experience and just mouths off at every opportunity against the Westminister Gov. Easy to be critical when you aren't the one making the decision. she loves the limelight but comes across as uncouth and gobby
