Just imagine the offspring of Celine and Bono...

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 21/11/2018 22:22

Celine was in a recent advert wherein she walked into a hospital nursery - babies dressed in pink and blue were magically changed into black and white clothing when she blew shiny black dust(?) out of her hands into the air. Make of that what you will, but it's clear she's interested in gender stuff.

Janie143 · 21/11/2018 22:42

Yes BSS the video I posted is that advert

That's such a weird ad Confused

What's with the black crosses everywhere too?

Goldenbug · 21/11/2018 22:58

Hideous clothes and the children must have been asked to look as miserable as possible.

Terrible.

megletthesecond · 21/11/2018 23:01

No one had the guts to tell her how awful it was then.

I don’t mind the clothes I think some of it is actually really nice... but the entitled nature of the advert!

How dare she blow magic crosses over all those newborns and re-dress them in her own clothing. (I know, I know it is just make believe). It is just that there is the idea that SHE knows better than the vacuous pink / blue brained parents and is saving the children.

No idea if she is gender critical or the opposite. I’m gender critical and don’t think pink and blue clothes toys etc should be banned, just that they should be applied equally to both sexes. Dressing all children in clothes suitable for boys is just reinforcing the idea that girls are some how ‘less’.

PurpleOva · 22/11/2018 07:46

The outfits look like old school prison uniforms, totalitarian deluxe.

I live in Scandinavia, and the pink/blue thing is less prominent here.

All colours are for all babies, they are babies FFS, we don't have to raise kids in an ultra gendered way (I didn't think anybody actually did that, it's 2018 FFS) Oh that's two FFS's, Celine must have gotten to me!

Babies still have a sex, and are still boys or girls.

It looks like she is planning on taking some of the trans cash from the ad. Magically taking away the babies "assigned gender".

Natsku · 22/11/2018 07:51

Weird. Why do they have to be black and white to be gender neutral? The clothes in my baby's baby box had all colours, including pink and blue, and they were all "gender neutral"

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 22/11/2018 09:05

Ah silly me!

IcedPurple · 22/11/2018 09:47

Slightly off-topic but I do find it hard to understand why someone as phenomenally rich as Dion would feel the need to flog mediocre clothes to parents? I like to think that if I were so loaded that I and my kids could live in complete luxury for the rest of our lives without ever lifting a finger, then I'd prefer to dedicate myself to more meaningful pursuits. But I guess the rich are different.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 22/11/2018 09:50

Well!

That was a bit Rosemary’s Baby.

BathFullOfEels · 22/11/2018 09:52

That advert is weird as fuck. I kept expecting one of the babies to start singing Black Parade.

NonaGrey · 22/11/2018 10:00

Why is it that “gender neutral clothing” means dressing both sexes in grey and covering them in skulls?

Whenever I hear parents complain about gender segregated clothes ithey complain that boys clothes don’t have enough nice colours, that girls clothes are too cutesy and impractical.

In which case surely a successful range of neutral
Clothing would be lots of reds, purples, greens, oranges etc with a mixture of plain items with stripes and geometric patterns. All types of clothes in a variety of colours, all the pockets, adjustable waists and tumble dryable.

And why are all the clothes so shapeless?

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/11/2018 10:02

Why do the clothes need to be black and white? Children should wear bright colours they have decades to wear monochrome when they grow up, it just looks so depressing on children.

Plus the prices are flaming ridiculous! £54 for an A dress which basically makes your child look like she is wearing their older siblings jumper?

I did have to laugh however when I noted that all the trousers are modelled by boys and all the dresses and leggings by girls. A little ironic for clothing which is labelled as gender neutral. Hmm

NerrSnerr · 22/11/2018 10:05

I'm sure she's not saying they have the be black and white to be gender neutral, it's clearly just the style she's gone for like Jools Oliver has gone for bright colours. I probably wouldn't buy it (I'm too tight anyway and get everything second hand) but I'm sure some will like it. Many parents choose to just dress their children in white and grey so it's not too different.

silkpyjamasallday · 22/11/2018 10:05

I agree with you IcedPurple, what's the point? She isn't even using organic cotton (or more sustainable materials) for those overinflated prices. She's just flogging more climate destroying cotton that will end up in landfill. The designs are pretty dull, nothing you can't get elsewhere for less. I love the idea of gender neutral clothing being more widely available, but this stuff is just masculine not neutral at all imo, just teaching children that femininity is inferior. And the New World Order theme is pretty creepy.

Avegemitesandwich · 22/11/2018 10:07

I have always found Celine Dion endearingly slightly batshit and cringey.

Remember when she wore that back to front suit to the Oscars? Legend! 😂

The advert is very 'Celine'.

Avegemitesandwich · 22/11/2018 10:09

A total tangent, but what are ethically sound materials for clothes?

NonaGrey · 22/11/2018 10:25

Yep

BathFullOfEels · 22/11/2018 12:16

Isn’t organic cotton hugely unsustainable? Organic anything isn’t great if we want to support the current population of the planet. Cotton is better than micro fibre though obviously.
