I am shocked at the very short period open that this was for open for applications - and that eg 4 Nov, the day they launched this ad, was a Sunday...
www.gov.uk/government/news/lgbt-advisory-panel-recruitment
So basically open very quietly for applications for just two weeks. For an influential committee post advising the minister.
Not at all how other public bodies would do it (like the Centre for public appointments who are scrupulous) -and really concerned to equalise access to applying for these types of advisory roles to government.
Plus.. it’s a bit odd that Stonewall etc already have a place reserved for them on this Government Office for Equalities committee. Meaning that Stonewall would have known about these places on this committee coming up a long time in advance before it was opened to the public to apply.. for
a mere two weeks’ duration.
So either way the impression that is unfortunately given is of a closed shop that only wants to hear from a certain political position ... or ... a committee so tokenistic and trivial that they can only justify a really cursory appointment process.
Neither is really a good look for an impartial government agency for equality.
I think that the Government Office for Equalities and Penny Mordaunt - who jointly issued this ad- should either extend the deadline to make it a12 weeks application time or they should set out why the open applications appointments process was only open so very fleetingly and why some places (like Stonewall’s) were already reserved on the committee to represent the voluntary sector. Stonewall clearly aren’t the only charity in this space... ?
(.. I also wonder if Penny and the GOE have seen the petition about Stonewall?)
