Spotted this on King's website. It's a study funded by an Economic and Social Research Council grant. It looks at 'should gender remain a legal status assigned at birth; and what would be the implications of reforming this'.

Its focus seems to be on reform:
One project aim is to develop a draft bill to provide a focal point for discussion of legal reform. This will present the best case for reform and demonstrate what legal change could look like and mean.
The Advisory Group includes 'representatives from the EHRC, Stonewall and EDF.'
