Leeds Managed Zone full Council debate, Wednesday 14th

Full council will be debating the managed zone. Some calling for it to be scrapped. Others comending it and wanting to extend and set up completely new designated zones. What is really concerning is that a number of requests have been made to disseminate information to council, to inform the members’ votes. Not one is coming at it from any other angle than “sex work” will always exist, “sex workers”, the “industry” etc. You know the stuff.

So depressing.

Good luck to anyone going

newtlover · 12/11/2018 22:05

hopefully there are some local people who can attend- was there any notice given?

Thank you for posting this. Is there anything we can do if we are not in Leeds?

How is a council overriding UK wide solicitation laws?

I will write to my MP - what to include? Articles on the effect of Leeds managed zones and in Switzerland? Asking for the law to be changed in favour of the Nordic model?

It’s webcast. I’ll post a link when it uploads. Usually following day. Or can be watched live.

Should be very interesting.

New article on the managed zone (mentions tomorrow’s meeting):

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6382047/Sick-pervert-asks-grandmother-hour-four-month-old-baby.html

Some horrible accounts. Talks about how the police are not following through on reports. There is also a website mentioned in article which documents incidents:

Maybe if the council think it’s a good idea they should make the zone round their homes or offices? Might focus minds if they came face to face with the consequences of their policies on a daily basis?

Can't read that sentence without hearing "orifices".

Just looked at the CEASE conference that is being held this Wednesday, in London (Central Hall, Westminster). One of the discussions is comparing how prostitution is managed in Leeds and Ipswich. Should be interesting.

I don't understand that. I strongly objected to Edinburgh licensing "saunas" which everyone knew were brothels. I don't most know how were permitted Most of them have gone now.

I am tracking down as many social media contacts as I can and asking questions in the public arena. I think it's what's generally known as "calling it out". LOUDLY.

I lived for a while in a well-known red light area and couldn't even get to the corner shop for a pint of milk without being propositioned. Us residents would carry pen/paper and be seen to be writing down the registration numbers of kerb crawlers. You've never seen a white van accelerate that fast...

Sicario · 13/11/2018 10:51

Police couldn't give a shit, obviously...

West Yorkshire Police Diversity have time to applaud Girl Guides for trans inclusion though.

Mind you, they haven't dared to tweet since on that account after 700 robust comments from the public.
