I hadn’t come across this group before but this piece about counselling without affirming is great.

It's scary that sensible advice like this is now seen as "conversion therapy" by TRAs

NotaRealLawyer · 12/11/2018 11:41

This someone who has empathy, insight, is reflective, and has the skills, knowledge, and understanding to support young people in exploring who they are.

It is a relief to read this, with all the snake oil merchants carrying on.
Thank you for the link.

I’d love to know more about her long term outcomes. She talks about her clients desisting - I wonder if many of them persist?

Thanks for sharing this.

Really good to read something that puts the young person at the centre, and not the ideology.

EverardDigby · 12/11/2018 13:14

That was a good read, and really emphasised the difference between a deep therapeutic process that really explores a range of internal and external issues, and the handful of sessions that young people have to be referred for medication. Though pretty much no one gets this level of therapy for anything unless we can pay for it.

AnchorMum · 12/11/2018 13:20

Thank you - very good to read this and see such a sensitive and rounded therapeutic approach.

Nicknamesalltaken · 12/11/2018 14:44

THIS is the level of support that should be being campaigned for, not bloody self id, shrieking ‘Transphobe!’ and access to toilets FFS.

I hope Susie Green reads this and is ashamed of herself following her tweet last week that psychological assessment shouldn’t be necessary for surgery.

littlbrowndog · 12/11/2018 15:58

This is a great piece to read. So caring and thoughtful and knowleadgable

SeaWitchly · 12/11/2018 20:57

How is Susie Green in any way qualified to pronounce that psychological assessment is not necessary?
I didn't realise she was a psychiatrist, psychologist or psychotherapist alongside her sterling work as a TRA Hmm

Letshopeitsallok · 12/11/2018 21:27

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone had access to such thoughtful and profound support at difficult points in their life.

Voice0fReason · 12/11/2018 22:01

This is such wonderful support. I cannot understand why it isn't standard practice.

ChattyLion · 13/11/2018 16:17

Wow thanks for posting this OP, what a professional, thoughtful and reassuring account. I wish that every questioning young person could have access to this sort of therapeutic relationship.
