Is this true? I don't really see how it is but I'm having to rely on more intelligent people today.

Gender is a social construct based on biological sex. Biological sex is determined by chromosomes and genitals. Some anomalies can creep in - those are known as intersex conditions. That's presumably what the scientists mean.

^^ Agree with PP. This is a very odd conclusion from that bizarre letter with 1600+ signatories that has been bruited about and comprehensively discussed.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/11/2018 13:44

Oh! Does it refer to the 1600 scientists who signed a letter against Trump and gender?

If we assume that sex is the term that refers to outcome of having either the xy or XX values of some specific bit of dna then it’s clearly rubbish.

Intersex seem so to be well considered as an anonomly and trans has nothing to do with those genes

However, if they wish to redefine sex to mean something else then it can be whatever they want.

Thank you so much. Please excuse my ignorance. I've got to a stage with all of this where everything just seems so hard to understand.

One lot of scientists may well say that gender is not determined by chromosomes or genitals, but that may be because they are referring to the social construct rather than sex.

OTOH, or even alongside, scientists may well say that sex is not always determined by chromosomes or genitals, because they are referring to DSDs.

Neither of these statements is wrong in my scientific (I'm more qualified to analyse this than a lot of the 1600 "scientists") opinion, they are just being used by a misogynistic agenda to support ladybrain, when they do no such thing.

Finally, some scientists may actually believe in ladybrain. That proves nothing, there are scientists who don't believe in global warning.
People are human, and sometimes humans are stupid.

Well, gender is the rules society constructed around males and females. But sex is clearly defined by chromosomes, or more precisely by the DNA. Whether you have the SRY gene (sex determining region typically found at the Y gene) is coded in your DNA. Heck, even hormone insensitivities, which can cause intersex conditions, are coded in the DNA. Is there any intersex condition that is not hardwired in the DNA?

(Not to mention that being trans has nothing to do with intersex, so those clamouring loudest about sex has nothing to do with chromosomes have laughably boring run of the mill XX or - I could bet way more often - XY chromosomes.)

Ignore it. Ridiculous hyperbolic straw man statement. Anything that says "Everyone is...." at the start is attempting to shame you imo
