Thanks for the gen, I will be watching this one!

TetherEnding · 16/11/2018 06:55

Daily reminder that BBC Children In Need granted £250k ish (two of its largest grants) last year to Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence.

This is diametrically opposed to the CiN vision statement regarding supporting all kids to be safe and reach their full potential.

Also looking forward to watching this lurking... I just wish is was being aired before this year's major fundraiser.

OhHolyJesus · 16/11/2018 06:57

@TetherEnding thanks for sharing that, I've been sending it round too as it's astounding. As a result I know some who normally donate won't be this year. A shame as the money does good things but not with charities you mention.

What is the world coming to?!

2rebecca · 16/11/2018 07:06

People can still donate to charities though but can be more discerning and choose charities they want to support. I think that often the best way to support children is to fund facilities for their parents so the parents can support their own children. Probably a sign of getting old but more of my money is going to older peoples charities now and environmental ones. The narcissism of our species where we want loads of other peoples money spent on transforming our bodies to fit with some inner essence idea of what we should "really" look like whilst deforesting and concreting over the planet is depressing.

Serfisafleur · 16/11/2018 08:44

It's Channel 4. It will be pro-trans, pro disfigure and sterilise your healthy child, pro tra through and through.
I'll avoid.

ScipioAfricanus · 16/11/2018 09:02

There are a lot of cries on Twitter of it being transphobic so I hope it may at the very least raise some differing viewpoints.

Hulo · 16/11/2018 09:15

Stella O'Malley has written an article which has been seen as transphobic, so easily done. I've found a reference to it here:

www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/i-should-have-said-i-always-had-a-son-i-just-thought-i-had-a-daughter-36049363.html

Apparently, it criticises early transitioning

Intrigued to watch this after the shambles that was Butterfly, thanks for the thread

everybodypuuuuulllll · 16/11/2018 20:52

Looking forward to this. The trailer was on tonight, it looked like it could be good.

DebbieInBirmingham · 16/11/2018 21:15

I think this will be good.

TheLurkingOne · 20/11/2018 21:51

My phones acting up so can't copy link but there's a review of this programme in the financial times if you just google Stella o malley and the FT. Can anyone link it to this thread. I don't think it's going to be another "butterflies" .

Interesting to read the FT review, which is a bit fence-sitting - but the comments are all gender-critical (I realise not everyone will have a subscription!):

TheLurkingOne · 21/11/2018 22:39

Anyone else watching? I think she's doing quite a good job of being very sympathetic and understanding and simultaneously critical.
