Was anyone watching?
They were discussing a white man who had funding for the theatre group he was involved in that was for POC. He identifies as mixed race but has white Irish parents. Some discussion about whether he has mixed race ancestry.
Jamelia saying that if people can identify as the opposite sex then they can identify as different races. Man on the panel (forget his name now) saying that you can change sex but not race.

Extrapolating from what curious said - about JV saying that he thought we all now accepted that TWAW - and that he works both in the BBC (where that seems to be the editorial standard accepted view) and on what was the Wright Stuff (and the he/she thing was what kicked off his leaving the programme so the programme makers might have been very strict about the line to be taken should the issue arise) that he has been force fed so much koolaid that he didn’t realise that other drinks are available too...

Also that maybe he was hoping Jamelia would say that she disagreed with the man so it could turn into a discussion about why is this different from changing sex/gender (either for them or later) and then was completely thrown when she said she wasn’t bothered (he doesn’t often sound like he has been caught by surprise but I think he did then!) so the conversation then spiralled away as a result.

I'm glad I wasn't the only person shouting at the radio when Jeremy Vine was on. I'm used to his low standards of 'journalism' but he was taking the piss this morning with that comment about how we all now accept TWAW. No we do not Jeremy. Only in your London BBC bubble do people mindlessly do that. OK and a few unis too ...

Someone said if we can now ID ourselves into an ethnic group and a sex, a straight white male will be able to ID as a black lesbian and then use the current trans guilt trip thing they do ('No it isn't a penis, it's a lady peen and it's really very, very different from a man's penis. It will feel completely different inside you') to get black lesbians to have sex with them. And so fulfil what I am told is a common male fantasy. But that's what all this is about anyway, as we know. Men & fantasies.

The thing is, Jeremy Vine just doesn't give a toss. He's a straight white male. All of this is a hypothetical curiosity that only interests him in so far as it involves controversy which generates his obscene +700K salary.

Equality of opportunity for PoC, the safety of vulnerable women and girls - both so irrelevant to him that he hasn't taken two minutes to think about the discussion he's hosting.

I think you're correct abs. It's just another discussion to fill a program to him.

It's odd that he said words to the effect of 'everyone agrees TWAW' when I'm sure he's hosted the 'debate' before.

Is it a particularly Irish thing? I seem to remember Gerry Adams referring to himself as a Ballymurphy n-word.
