Did anyone catch this? I just caught the last minute so don't know what paper the letter was in.

I think its about this;

''Britain’s only NHS gender identity service for children is reviewing its operations amid claims made by a senior member of staff that it is failing to examine fully the psychological and social reasons behind young people’s desire to change gender.''

Gender identity clinic accused of fast-tracking young adults

Thanks! One of the guests questioned why parents were given a voice as the patients were young adults!

Was just going to post about this as it's on paper round up on BBC news app.

Blimey, The Guardian is asking a question about the ideology. I can almost hear the hissy fit by the US staffers from here.

Floisme · 03/11/2018 23:29

The Guardian aren’t only covering the story - it’s the second story on their mobile website at the moment. Is Katherine Viner giving USA Guardian the finger? Grin

They need to stop confusing England and Britain. Scotland has Sandyford clinic in Glasgow. There's also a clinic in Edinburgh but I'm not sure if it offers enough services to count b

Interesting that the Mermaids quote doesn't claim kids are at risk of suicide. It mentions concentration and hobbies - is this a harbinger of a discussion with fewer lies?

It’s the Observer, not the Guardian - different editors. I have a sense of the Observer deliberately distancing itself from the Gusrdian line.

"The trust is concerned by the tone and manner in which these allegations have been made. They reveal a negative attitude to gender dysphoria and gender identity which does not reflect the views or the approach of the trust.”

Hmm

Also that quote from Mermaids is from Lui Asquith - is that the same Lui who was on BBC Woman's Hour last week? FtM transitioner who came across well (though I still got the feeling it was all about stereotypes).

Although interestingly I’ve just googled and Katherine Viner is editor-in-chief of Guardian US (whereas Guardian Australia and the Observer have their own editors). I’d love to know what’s going on in their office, especially with Hadley coming out criticising that US opinion piece.
