Parenting easier across genders wtf

Not a TAAT as such but just read on another thread that step parenting is easier across genders so that men find it easier to step parent girls and women easier to step parent boys. I think it's possibly one of the most stereotypical based assumptions I've ever read on mumsnet and struggle to believe anyone would believe such nonsense.

Is this a thing? Do people seriously believe that one gender is easier to step parent than another? I'm not sure which of the 72 genders they meant but referred to boy and girl so assume they meant sex.

I've never heard that before. I have a DSD and we're very close. I've been a stepmother for more than 30 years. I'm a DSGM now.

I'd think it was because you weren't taking the place of their parental role model for their gender?

Also, potentially that it avoids conflicts for the attention of the parent you live with. They (or you) will be less likely to feel competitive with you (or them),for the attentions of the parent you live with.

I can see that there might be less conflicts and less pressure anyway. At least generally speaking.

I've heard of it in relation to normal parenting actually. Mummy's boys and daddy's girls.
