Women friendly floor

I'm planning a business trip for 2 days with a client at my work, which work will give 'reasonable' costs for. I found there is a Leonardo hotel near which has 'women friendly' rooms on a particular floor. Has anyone used these? Is it useful or is it just what people think women like? Is it for women only (no men allowed) or just a guide? More generally is it useful or even necessary?

Could you narrow down where in the world the hotel is?

Is there a description on the hotel's website?

AssassinatedBeauty · 28/10/2018 00:00

www.leonardo-hotels.com/women-friendly-rooms

If it's this, it's fucking patronising bullshit.

scotsheather · 28/10/2018 00:02

Yes Assassinated. Looked like pinkified crap from the description at least.

I found the website... tbh seems like a gimmick, most of it is the sort of things you'd expect in a good hotel anyway

Seems like things everybody would enjoy so why label.it as for women. Odd.

scotsheather · 28/10/2018 00:05

well quite that was my first thought. Don't think I'll put too much thought into that. Might book a room in that hotel anyway.

Maybe they put the mirrors a few inches lower. Always a problem for me only being able to see the top half of my head.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/10/2018 08:20

Maybe they put the mirrors a few inches lower

That would be useful, but they don't mention it so probably haven't.

Favourite magazines? Hm, so that'll be New Scientist for me ...

GetOvaIt · 28/10/2018 09:47

That made me laugh. Powerful hair dryers to get ready in record time for your power meeting? Smaller meals for lighter appetites?
Do they think women see this and say "yes please!"
To be fair safe parking spaces sound good, but door viewers and locks seem like they should be standard in every room?

angelwithalariat · 28/10/2018 09:55

'Indulgence:

For the small appetite choose a light snack'

HAHAHA

My idea of indulgence isn't a light snack.

I'm getting a mental picture of the Leonardo woman, very thin and neurotic, so anxious about her appearance that she frequently has to lie down.

angelwithalariat · 28/10/2018 09:56

Sorry, lie down in a fluffy bathrobe on soft pillows.

DamsonGin · 28/10/2018 10:18

The question that springs to mind is whether that means the rest of the hotel is women un-friendly, with rocks for pillows and danger zones marked out in the car park.

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/10/2018 10:22

I would not book a room in this hotel because of the nonsense on that website. It is trying to create a fear where there is simply no reason.

Has anyone ever heard of a single case of a solo female traveller being attacked or being at risk in a London hotel room? I'm not talking obviously about the Ched Evans' type of situation.

BettyDuMonde · 28/10/2018 10:26

Please book one and document and share the experience 😂

angelwithalariat · 28/10/2018 10:31

No and I used to travel for work quite a lot, either by myself or with male colleagues. I've never been in a hotel where I was worried about whether the door locked or whether I would get ambushed on the way to the room. When I was younger and staying in backpacker type places, yes, but never in a proper hotel.

I would guess with some jobs you do have to make sure you've got a good mirror and hairdryer, or a trouser press, but personally I just want a nice big bed I can sit on with a big bag of chips and my copy of the New Scientist.

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/10/2018 10:51

Don't know why I assumed London- the actual site is for German hotels. If it is Berlin the OP is going to there are fantastic hotels there at rates which are astonishing compared to London. The Intercontinental near the zoo was amazing.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/10/2018 11:24

That mirror request?

a portable cosmetic mirror for your daily beauty ritual. Or did I fall into a 1950s advert archive?

GraceTheDisgrace · 28/10/2018 14:55

Chrome won't let the page load for security reasons so I'm just going to go ahead and assume that these rooms are like any other but priced about 15% lower to account for the wage gap.

Surely.

This made me chuckle.

I used to travel lots for work and the thing that would have made a difference is a quiet corner in the dining room where a young woman (early to mid 20s) eating on her own is not gawked at by all the male business travellers. This was a while ago, so I imagine the advent of mobile phones has eased things - provides a distraction.

FekkoThePenguin · 28/10/2018 17:00

I would hope for a bottle of gun and tumbler (ice on tap and some decent tonic water), nice slippers and a half decent hairdryer.

sorenipples · 28/10/2018 17:02

I'd presume a woman friendly floor meant prostitutes were not admitted. But is it not that kind of hotel?

Cougar52 · 28/10/2018 17:02

There's a website called Maiden Voyage that specialises in travel safety for women, maybe they can help?

FekkoThePenguin · 28/10/2018 18:13

It's sad that they need a womens floor/area but I guess if you are a woman working away from home and staying in a hotel (and havi g to go to dinners and evenings) then coming back to a floor where drunk salesmen aren't staggering around making lewd comments must be bliss (not from experience, oh no).

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/10/2018 18:22

They don't need a women's floor. The whole idea is scare-mongering of the highest order.

then coming back to a floor where drunk salesmen aren't staggering around making lewd comments must be bliss

ie every hotel I've stayed in.
