Not sure if this has been posted previously:

Some good comments, and up/down votes as we would expect.

Sigh. Why is it that when the majority of people so clearly take a sane view of all this, such crazy stuff keeps happening?

AncientLights · 25/10/2018 16:10

In the article, Shah Qureshi sates that gender is a protected characteristic!

Qureshi said: 'Section 22 criminalises a disclosure even where it is made inadvertently. It also creates a hierarchy of rights between trans people and other protected characteristics like race, gender or sexual orientation.

I'm liking Doc Stocks legal reflection this afternoon too.

Will link shortly as I can't do it from my phone.

This Prof Stock thread, RTB?

That'd be the one.

So Allan transitions to Angela, without undergoing any physical changes, and 'her' colleagues will be breaking the law if they do not police their thoughts and deeds to ensure that they do not name what is there before them.

I thought it was axiomatic that the government could not dictate our thoughts and beliefs? So how is it legal to criminalise the person who uses male pronouns to describe a male person?

heresyandwitchcraft · 25/10/2018 19:06

Excellent point regarding criminalization. I have been worried about this. Although I agree with Ancient, why is he getting the protected characteristic of sex wrong?

foxyliz26 · 25/10/2018 19:09

I aw this in the Gazette , and expect it to make a showing on here

As a Solicitor who has attempted to bring Section 22 breaches of the GRA 2004 ,for a couple of clients all have fallen down due to the time restriction on reporting

the Section 22 breach must be reported within 6 months

my understanding is this will be addressed by this Government shortly

foxyliz26 · 25/10/2018 19:20

I would just add we don't get to pick and choose which pieces of Criminal Legislation we don't like

Section 22 Breaches are a Criminal Offence Liability

by all means think what you like

But a man or woman with a Gender Recognition Certificate , is legally that Gender for all purposes

if you don't like that , and have £5000 burning a whole in your pocket , I would imagine there are plenty of Solicitors and others , lurking who will report any Criminal Offences

and I am sure there are a few Solicitors who will represent you in Court , when you plead guilty

PineappleSunrise · 25/10/2018 19:44

Didn't agree with the article, then? Grin

JellySlice · 25/10/2018 19:48

Hopefully by repealing this nonsensical law and clarifying it and the EAto ensure that Thoughtcrime no longer exists.

Woooo, scaaary...,

Waterparc · 25/10/2018 20:33

Fundamental misunderstanding of what a solicitor is. Otherwise nice try

“I would imagine there are plenty of Solicitors and others , lurking who will report any Criminal Offence”

Redkeyboard · 25/10/2018 20:57

Thanks Foxy for demonstrating why the issues raised in the article posted by the OP should be of concern to right thinking people who value reality and freedom of speech.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/10/2018 21:44

it's my understanding that a section 22 breach would be disclosing the information that someone is trans?

therefore I'm a little baffled by foxyliz26's poorly veiled threats

no one here is likely to be willing or able to reveal that an individual is trans

the people we discuss here tend to have made a career out of it rather than regarding it as a dark secret

Xenia · 25/10/2018 22:30

You can just about always tell they are trans anyway even if you can't say so, so it's all a bit emperor's new clothes-ish to me.
