I am getting adverts on here from GG looking for new recruits i.e. adult volunteer helpers, not the rainbows/brownies/guides themselves.
Should MN be taking this money?

The advert doesn't come round very often but I've seen it three times now. I clicked through the link to this.

I've seen those on Facebook. I wonder if it's targetted adverts- you look at threads that mention GG so you get the advert.

I getting British Legion which I guess given I mentioned them in another thread here.

No relevant but NSPCC daily promoted and on my twitter timeline it’s a bloody joke, they was promoting gambling too

Sorry, I don't think I've made my point clearly enough. This isn't a post about annoying adverts or cookies.

GG have swallowed the "transwomen are women" line and sacked long-standing volunteers who question the affect of this on safeguarding.

Should MN take GG's money?

Mumsnet is a private organisation which hasn't taken a position in the GRA debate (as far as I know), except to provide a space where people can freely debate the issues in a respectful manner.

Also, I'd imagine there's a pool of ads that are just fed to the browser, which MN doesn't control.

FloralBunting · 25/10/2018 11:56

MN has no official GC position. They allow the debate and conversation to take place on the FWR section, but they are not our promoters.

Obviously, the AWA tweeters see no difference between being GC and allowing someone else to be without threatening them, but AWAs aren't bright of bulb, so there's not a lot to be done about that.

But yes, while GC people see that Girl Guides are an organization with a cavalier approach to safeguarding and therefore one to avoid, MN as a company don't, and act accordingly.

Ethically and morally in my opinion given who site users are then it would be a firm No.

Can you prove that MN have taken the dirty handshake? As I can’t see what adverts are from MN and other webpages I got open on my tiny screen at moment

Beamur · 25/10/2018 12:18

Not all site users are GC either. MN hosts this discussion.

senua · 25/10/2018 12:20

Can you prove that MN have taken the dirty handshake?

On my laptop: they are GG adverts on the MN website. I'd say that's fairly conclusive!Grin

The advertising is supplied by google based on keywords in your search history though. Mumsnet dosent do deals directly with advertisers for that. (They do for in app ads I think)

That's where there was that embarrassing thing with a politician a couple of years ago complaining about porn ads on Twitter that was obviously due to his search history!
