Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

A gem from the Spectator

Found this in the Spectator - a spoof version of My Favourite Things (there are various ones but this is the "snowflakes" one, which I think applies to the woke too) -

Fitbits and Snapchat and tall skinny lattes,
Making them tear down imperialist statues,
I'm straight but identify LGBT -
These are some things that exhilarate me.

Hashtags, emojis, feeling bruised and tender,
Being the victim, never the offender,
Insisting on toilets which are gender-free -
Those are some more things that do it for me.

Finance from father, easy degree passes,
Safe spaces and trigger warnings in all classes,
No platforms for folks with whom I disagree -
These things make me bubble over with glee.

When I'm getting no attention,
And need sympathy,
I similar recall my most favourite thing -
It's me, it's me, it's me!

Thank you Brian Murdoch.

But... lattes and statues doesn't rhyme.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 23/10/2018 07:59

You know, they’d probably put feminists in that category of over sensitive middle class people to make fun of too.

I read the Spectator as a teenager because my parents bought it and I enjoyed being outraged by the socially conservative things in there. The bits I genuinely liked were Dot Wordsworth, Dear Mary (because apparently there are still people who behave like Saki characters) and the poetry competition.

I've started reading it again two decades later mostly for James Kirkup's stuff and because I still enjoy being outraged by the socially conservative articles, and was overjoyed to see that Basil Ransome-Davies is still contributing to the poetry.

Love that. If you say it in a really posh southern accent Lahtay and Statue doesn't really work. But La Tay and Statue is not too bad.

dinkydonky · 23/10/2018 13:15

But... lattes and statues doesn't rhyme.

They identify as rhyming and that's all that matters.

PreseaCombatir · 23/10/2018 13:36

🤣

That's the spirit dinkydonky! Grin

Maybe the first line should be -
Fitbits and Snapchat and signalling virtue ?

Still not completely rhyming though but maybe a bit better. Shall I write in to the magazine?
