"The infamous hate group women’s place U.K. (WPUK) plan to meet in Bath to spread lies and fear to harm trans people, especially trans women.

We encourage everyone who feels safe to do so, to come out and oppose this meeting. And it’s never been more urgent than right now.

Bring your friends! Bring banners! The precise location will be anncounced closer to the time.

We also advise people to take precautions for safety: TERFs love taking photos of us to doxx us/ grass us to the police. We advise bringing face covers!"

I think they like to use the word folk as it conjures up impressions of simple, honest people who are no danger to anyone

silentcrow · 22/10/2018 21:41

Oldstyle that is both a sick and disturbingly accurate misreading! Grin The more you peel back this movement, the more groups you find feeding off and winding each other up.

I do think there's something to the notion of trans being a bandwagon for some people of an antifa/anarchist persuasion, though. There's no NF or BNP to have a ruckus with any more (Robinson's lot are both pathetic and surrounded by coppers wherever they go); the animal rights lobby has died right back after the hunting ban. Authoritarianism in politics is too nebulous to have a fist fight with, and we don't have big white supremacist groups like they have in the US. Trans is something to hang your hat on and feel virtuous and rebellious about, easier to tackle than the rest of the general awfulness of austerity, and doesn't require much in the way of political savvy.

jgrobinson · 22/10/2018 21:44

"Don’t eat the custard creams! TERFS put ground glass in the biscuits so that trans folxs will be maimed by eating them!"

Clara Barker wrote after Oxford WPUK:
"I also saw one person trying to push biscuits into the mouths of the protestors. The act was clearly intended as silly but provocative. There was no thought to allergies. Those biscuits would have made me very sick."

FekkoTheLawyer · 22/10/2018 21:48

Sigh. It ground glass - razor blades, or novichok or radiation or summit. Or dead unicorns.

AspieAndProud · 22/10/2018 21:50

If the masks and the baseball bats aren’t protection enough the little darlings can always call the cops if the women turn on them with their harsh language.

theOtherPamAyres · 22/10/2018 21:54

Last week, I identified as a doctor and wore scrubs and a stethoscope, eschewing any need for medical training, exams and all that shit. I just was a doctor.

Next week, I will identify as a transgender OtherPamAyres (pronouns Mrs/Whatever) as I stroll to the Bath meeting. I will be the one wearing a fake leopard skin mini-skirt, boob tube, thigh boots and a Dusty Springfield wig.

My ancient mother will be on my arm - also transgender - wearing a Cirencester Rugby Club strip with the name TINDALL emblazoned across her back.

Do wave to us and shout very loudly, dear protesters. Nothing this exciting as happened to my Mum since she saw Kim Wilde buying yoghurt in Asda at Hatfield.

arranfan · 22/10/2018 22:36

maybe hobnobs for the mumsnet connection?

Fairplay - lemon drizzle for large numbers can turn out to be costly. Tho' there's always Bear

SPOFS · 22/10/2018 23:11

Why don't all the people in attendance identify as transgender (which most people are anyway based on Stonewall's definition) and then accuse the TRAs are trying to shut down their discussion on trans rights?

Play the, at their own game.

Freespeecher · 22/10/2018 23:47

It's a TERF war on a global scale
I'd rather hear both sides of the tale.

LorettasBox · 23/10/2018 00:14

It don't matter if you're black or white. Great. Bloody midnight earworm now.

I don't think folk is used because of cidyy connotations. I think it's because they genuinely don't know that it means the same thing as the words they are trying to avoid and once jargon has stuck with this bunch, they are rather tenacious about sticking to it.

The computer 'Deep Thought' was not named after them, for sure.

LorettasBox · 23/10/2018 00:15

I'm really not sure why 'cosy' became 'cidyy' in my post...

MN is the home of the seditious biscuit.

SometimesAwake · 23/10/2018 22:43

Not just seditious, only the very best of West Country artisan biscuits in Bath of course. Love the title for this event.

HilltopTractor · 24/10/2018 10:04

Has anyone created a montage of the protesters and how the present at meetings and court hearings?

Trousered · 24/10/2018 10:10

Hilarious video.

AspieAndProud · 24/10/2018 10:16

I’m not sure what seditious means.

Is it the sediment that forms at the bottom of the cup if you dunk your biscuit too long?

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2018 11:07

* Seditious -* inciting or causing people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.

MN rebelled against the authority of politicians by making them open to ridicule on their choice of favourite biscuit. (The monarchy are too well advised to contemplate a webchat)

kesstrel · 24/10/2018 11:18

"Alternative" language use tends to be very important with these sort of naive youth identity/protest movements. It was the same with the "counterculture", and with the adoption of "street" language. It's a badge of identity to recognise each other, and to fit in. It doesn't have to have any actual meaning.

🤣 And now I want one ( well, four would be better)

Finger wag with one or take two to make the gesture of your choosing.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/10/2018 11:53

That's the TRA versus GC divide in one easy image. TRA - pastel flag painted baseball bats, and lots and lots of photos of them holding knives. GC women - biscuits.

Binglebong · 24/10/2018 11:58

On a serious note has anyone contacted the localish paper? They do like to fill column inches and a farcical dramatic photo of protesters fills even more.

Binglebong · 24/10/2018 11:58

And it should be jammy dodgers - that's very clearly the MumsNet biscuit.Biscuit

There are some terrible drama llamas about. Here's one. The replies are gold. twitter.com/Nellachronism/status/1054804218371076096

[TW: assault]

My friend was JUST threatened by a drunk man as she was walking alone. She was going to tell him off but he had a knife in hand. He demanded to know if she was a man or woman. She showed him her vagina & got away.

FUCK. YOU. TERFS.

In Leicester, apparently. Leicestershire Police popped up to see if there was anything they could do to help. They were a bit puzzled by the person who said 'i'm still awaiting an update regarding the second gunman on the grassy knoll?' Grin Grin Grin
