Does no acknowledgment email (two people, different days) suggest an issue at the FPFW end or with the email service? Does anyone know?

HeronLanyon · 21/10/2018 10:51

Thank goodness. Like a stupid thing I left it till Friday afternoon to do this then had real trouble even getting in. When finally in, things were taking so long I had to give up as I was working. Will do this NOW. I also, as pps, told lots about it last week. I guess there was just too much consulting for the site to cope?

How many people are aware that this lunacy is being fuelled by judgements made in the European Court of Human Rights? As long as we remain in the EU we are forced under its terms to remain signed up to the ECHR. Only Brexit can stop this lunacy.

You should get a submission number. Did you get that?

On the thank-you page or by email?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/10/2018 17:15

Onlybrexit, the countries being touted as having 'international best practice' in their policies aren't only in the eu.

Have you seen the Yogyakarta principles? They are an interesting read.

Charliethefeminist · 21/10/2018 17:29

Got mine on the thank you page, don't remember an email actually. Hmm.

It's not. A recent ruling in the ECtHR on the issue of self-id, ruled against it - the court ruled that it is legitimate to require a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria before granting a change of legal sex.

139. ... the Court observes that a psychiatric diagnosis features among the prerequisites for legal recognition of transgender persons’ gender identity in the vast majority of the forty Contracting Parties which allow such recognition, with only four of them having enacted legislation laying down a recognition procedure which excludes such a diagnosis. Hence, there is currently near-unanimity in this regard.

141. ... the Court accepts that this requirement is aimed at safeguarding the interests of the persons concerned in that it is designed in any event to ensure that they do not embark unadvisedly on the process of legally changing their identity.

Better late than never. I have "come out" on social media. Had a few conversations in person that were not promising (lots of "it's this generation's gay rights", "what about intersex people" and so on, including the obligatory "you're all just bigots") so I feel this may lead to a fair few dropped friendships, but didn't feel I could stay so silent any longer. Feeling slightly wobbly now.

Popchyk · 22/10/2018 12:15

"You do have to give your address, but it doesn't say it's only for UK residents/citizens".

You don't have to give your address, OldCrone. You can leave it blank. I did because I mistakenly thought that section referred to organisations only.

That's yet another flaw with the consultation. Someone with a hundred email addresses can send in 100 identical responses.

GulagsMyArse · 22/10/2018 12:20

Did long form which was painful. Got at least 12 friends and family to do it too.

That worrying!!

Popchyk · 22/10/2018 12:34

Yes, I will let them know about that.

They should be auditing responses in order to guard against fraud. Say look up one in 50 respondents and check their name against the address provided. The electoral roll would be adequate for these purposes. And if the results of that demonstrate any cause for concern they should then check one in 10 respondents.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of the responses from people who identify as trans will not have a name/address match-up on the electoral roll.

And of course it is moot anyway because you don't even have to provide an address or even any evidence that you are using your own name.

This consultation is a system where the government takes people at their word and provides no guards against fraud. The irony of that is not lost.
