Finally covered on mainstream BBC news. Ends with poor oppressed transwoman saying they just want the same rights as everyone else.

I chuck things at the telly and say they've got the same rights as everyone else!!!

OP posts:
EverardDigby · 18/10/2018 18:33

They don't have the right for everyone to believe they are a woman

But yes, quite.

Trinity1976 · 18/10/2018 18:33

Yes, they still haven't told us which rights we have that they don't have.

I was also a bit narked that they showed video of 'clashes' at Hyde Park and Bristol, failing to mention that on those occasions it was TRAs turning up trying to sabotage women's meetings.

scepticalwoman · 18/10/2018 18:36

Yup. It was crap. Anyone on twitter could adk them to put in that very critical piece of information about who was being assaulted and silenced (as it wasn't TRAs). And if they could possible interview David Davis - he was awesome on PM this evening

scotsheather · 18/10/2018 18:37

Yes cause transwoman are just poor little discriminated against things who pose no threat to women's existence and equality.

Not a single mention of children of course.

TheRollingCrone · 18/10/2018 18:39

YY to all of the above BUT stop calling women playing football 'The Reggae GIRLS' - just fuck the fuck off BBC!

TheRollingCrone · 18/10/2018 18:40

Sorry off topic - but BBC rightly pissing me off.

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 18/10/2018 18:41

I was chuffed to see Jess Phillips try and open up the debate, and Nic was clear.

But the violence was covered terribly. And I think we just keep missing all the issues - that it's those with the least agency - children/patients/prisoners - affected the most.

MamehaSan · 18/10/2018 18:42

It was discussed on Radio 4 too. At first I thought "here we go, another glossing over of the issues". But then they brought on David Davies. At the end of the segment I admit I did a little fist pump. He really gets it.

Binglebong · 18/10/2018 18:45

I just complained about this. Cursing as I forgot the "just want the same rights" tail. Bad enough had the transwoman said it but the reporter doing so was awful.

I put : On a report on gender reassignment (nice to finally see it reported) the sentence "Those with opposing views have clashed" was used over images of violent assaults. However these were not clashes, these were acts of intimidation and violence aimed at preventing peaceful meetings to discuss potential law changes that would affect women. All of these incidents, which in one case has resulted in a conviction, were perpetrated by the pro transgender rights side.

In addition Dr Nicola William's title was missed out on her caption, I hope this was a mistake and not an attempt to minimise the intellectual abilities of the pro women side.

Incidentally if I am outed by sharing this post and my complaint (as they have my detail) I will be straight on to the ICO as it will only have been able to come from the BBC. Just in case someone is having bright ideas.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 18/10/2018 18:46

What's the best alternative website for news? Because I'm not using the BBC one any more.

orcani · 18/10/2018 18:47

The bbc have found the most 'feminine' trans person there is! They are missing the damn point

orcani · 18/10/2018 18:49

Where was Kathleen Stock?

RosaNullaSpina · 18/10/2018 18:52

Posters on another thread (sorry, can’t remember which one, but it was today) said they feared this sudden BBC/Guardian coverage meant there was going to be a stitch-up (of women). I fear they are right.

I think I heard the newsreader say (I was dashing between kitchen/living room) ‘change is likely’ or something like that.

GlomOfNit · 18/10/2018 19:07

David Davies on the PM programme on R4 was excellent. Sensible, an efficient summation of the problem and persuasive. I'll admit to a sad little headshake at the state of things - that I'm happy to hear David Davies speaking sense and advocating for our rights. He has a fairly reactionary track record that some would say was homophobic, and has shown himself to be fairly far-right in the Tory party. Ah well. Confused

yes, there is a most unseemly rush by the BBC to cover this all of a sudden! I'm trying hard not to speculate why.

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 19:17

orcani Kathleen Stock is on Newsnight later.

Just listening to David Davies now on listen back.

He was excellent - gets the points across so well. It's about women's rights - and how he has been investigated just for hosting these meetings.

He got in that the vast majority of transwomen have no surgery at all, and his 'urgent question' to Parliament being refused - but that a person who has a male body is able to go into a women's prison and sexually assault four women is outrageous - and that the prison procedures have not been changed since this happened, and they're not even allowed to talk about it in Parliament. He says he's never seen anything like this in 13 years as an MP.

Incredible that he seems to be the only MP prepared to speak up for women like this Shock

scotsheather · 18/10/2018 19:25

Anyone got a link to David Davies bit?

IdahoCrow · 18/10/2018 19:28

I see the Prime Minister fucking well pre-empting the results of the consultation. Disgraceful.

Failure to describe the assault on Maria Mac by male TRAs for what it was.

Misuse of the word 'gender'.

Misrepresentation of 'gender' and 'changing gender'.

Failure to use the word 'sex'.

A transgender person claiming unchallenged that they want rights they already have.

Shit journalism.

Here, scotsheather.

The whole discussion started at about 21:30, David Davies bit at 26:00.

Binglebong · 18/10/2018 19:41

Please, if you weren't happy then complain. Bbc seem to be responding to whoever makes the most noise. SHOUT!

scotsheather · 18/10/2018 19:44

Great. Measured and rational comments from a usually looney right MP. He's certainly the most vocal MP but others have tentatively spoke of it.

ToeToToe · 18/10/2018 19:45

Just watching the BBC News one now.

Interesting how the racing driver transwoman says that you wouldn't asked this of other minority groups - so why would the trans community have to prove themselves?

Other minority groups frequently have to prove themselves if they are to receive a benefit set aside for that group. People who are disabled cannot self identify their way to Blue Badges or disability payments.

Transwomen benefit (already) from having a protected characteristic under the EA - that of gender reassignment - but they want to be able to override the exemptions under the protected characteristic of "biological sex" too - that benefit women.

IdahoCrow · 18/10/2018 19:50

If I heard right, the very photogenic trans person featured - Charlie Martin - (who seems like a pleasant enough, talented person in their field, and who interestingly wasn't performing some kind of pinky-pink deranged glittery sexalised 'femininity') doesn't have or want a GRC?

I think Charlie was edited badly - I'd like to know more on Charlie's views on rights, competing rights, surgery etc.

IdahoCrow · 18/10/2018 19:52

And what @ToeToToe said ^^

IdaBWells · 18/10/2018 20:05

David Davies, spoke extremely well and got lots of the most essential points over. Thank you David.

What is so infuriating is that these are exactly the points women have been making for years and yet they are rarely invited to speak and on those rare occasions they are constantly interrupted. I was really struck by how Daivid was allowed to finish all his points. Whenever I have heard Dr Nicola Williams speak she is frequently interrupted and struggles to finish her point.

So much misogyny,
